Lovely hotel within the town and easy access to shops, cafes, restaurants and local amenities. We had a very enjoyable two night stay and all staff were very friendly and welcoming. We ate in the restaurant on both evenings and had a lovely meal and we would certainly return.

Overall, very good. Room very good. Not so keen that you have to wait to be seated for breakfast. We stood for 5 minutes, staff seemingly ignoring us and the restaurant was half empty anyway.

Excellent stay but music kept us awake even though reception told us it was a quiet room. However, all other aspects of the stay was great.

A comfortable, atmospheric hotel , ideally located in the centre of Colchester.
Staff were friendly and attentive especially in the restaurant where both food and service were excellent.

The internet connectivity in the bedroom was poor however good coverage was available in the bar and lounge.

Very nIce hotel in centre of town. Popular with locals and visitors for food, drinks and stays. Our room was towards the back and was quiet. Our Travel Zoo voucher for this stay was a great deal.

Lovely old hotel sympathetically decorated but need to be aware old buildings don’t have lifts! Few stairs to negotiate to upper floors. Our double room was very nice and spacious but did have a lowish beam across the middle of the room. Fine for us 5 footers but might be problematic for 6 foot plus! Might be worth checking your room spec when you book if you’re very tall. Lovely comfortable bed too. Not much storage as mainly caters for short stays. Reduced by 1star as we had issue with TV connection but no big issue for us and would not impact us returning again. This was our second stay.

Lovely old hotel right in the middle of town centre. Staff lovely although the breakfast staff were run off their feet meaning service was slow. Room comfortable. Parking is in a pay & display car park at the rear @ £12 per 24hr period.

I found it difficult to find the car park and, as it was the hotel carpark, I thought it was rather expensive. However, my room was comfortable and clean and the staff were exceptionally kind to me. This is important for someone travelling alone. The evening meal was of excellent quality and good value, with the 20% reduction.

Stayed 2 nights. 1st night : a Friday, in a room street side meaning lot of noise coming from late partygoers, traffic, loud music etc until 2am. 2nd night : asked accommodating lady at reception for a quieter room at the back and slept much better !
Had dinner at very good hotel restaurant with 20% off the bill for guests. Perfect !

The only problem was access - road works and one way system in Colchester - we drove round for 40 mins, as did another guest to get to the hotel.
SatNav told us to get out and walk!! Directions should be clearly stated.
Otherwise, everything was really good.

The hotel is situated on a busy high street and central for a visit to Colchester. The staff were exceptional, friendly, welcoming and efficient. The hotel is very popular and was busy day and night in the bar and lounge area. The food in the restaurant was good and the menu varied. The rooms were clean and comfortable but sadly for us too noisy due to its location.

Great hotel right in the heart of Colchester, young guys on reception very helpful and polite, as were all the mainly young staff at the bar and restaurant. Hotel has had a great contemporary makeover and there’s a great vibe in the bar/ lounge with a mix of ages and clientele. Reminds me more of a small boutique in terms of decor and service. Food in the restaurant is good and well priced. Rooms smart with the bathrooms all modern. Breakfast good quality all ordered and cooked fresh, not buffet. For those with dietary needs there were gluten free and non dairy options.

Can understand older guests (and I am 58) finding some rooms at the front a bit noisy at the weekend, and the bar too. But it dies down after 11 so we didn’t have too many problems. Preferred it lively to be honest

Finding the hotel if you are driving is difficult due to one way system and roadworks. Sat Nav does not work correctly and the car park next to the hotel was full on a Saturday. However reception staff moved their car to give us their space.
