The White Hart Hotel is a former coaching inn set in Dorchester-on-Thames -- a traditional riverside village with a Norman abbey; it was a filming location for "Midsomer Murders".

Set within a row of quaint buildings, the timber-and-brick property is a 25-minute drive from Oxford's historic city centre and the market town of Henley-on-Thames, known for its bridge and rowing heritage.

The Chilterns Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, with over 300 square miles of "handsome countryside [with] forested chalk hills... and deep valleys interrupted by easy, rolling farmland" (Rough Guides), is 10 minutes' drive away.

Blenheim Palace is 30 minutes' drive from the hotel, while Warwick Castle and the British Motor Museum are both around an hour's drive away. Bletchley Park -- the top-secret home of British codebreakers during World War II -- is a little over an hour's drive away.

Highlights at the property include a wood-beamed bar with a log fire, and a dramatic vaulted ceiling in the restaurant. Wi-Fi is free.

Our room was upstairs in the cottage type building at the back of the hotel no 23. Very very nice , but the front door at the bottom of thr stairs could do with a self shutting spring being fitted as people keep leaving it the door wide open ,with the wind blowing as strong as it was on our visit there was a 100mph draft under our door all through the night causing a howling sound. I did get up and shut it ,but it was open again an hour late . Apart from this I loved our stay at the white hart.

The hotel with its log fires certainly gives a good feeling when first entering. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Our room was not in the main hotel but in a apartment at the back beside the car park, this was a very large room with a good bathroom. The room was abit worn but still comfortable, outside there was some building work going on which meant that no cars could park on the carpark. We always managed to find a parking space on the road but everywhere is crowded with cars. The bar and dining room were very well presented and the breakfasts were very good, help yourself to fresh fruit ,toast, crosionts and waiter service for a cooked breakfast. We had a very good three days break in this hotel and would recommend it. Good walks in the village and easy drive to the park and ride if you want a trip into Oxford

Lady who checked us in didn’t welcome us, she was too busy morning about a lack of staff. Room spotless but needed refurbishing, pillows very hard. Evening meal was beautifully presented, however completely tasteless. Bar area very odd, no atmosphere at all.

Its location - beautiful village with lovely walks and an interesting abbey. We would definitely recommend the village!
Other Comments
The log-burning stove in the bar area was lovely and very much appreciated. The service in the restaurant in the evening was very slow which was disappointing. At breakfast it was fine. The worn carpets on the stairs gave a slightly 'tired' impression. All the staff were very welcoming. There was only one bath towel in our room (and one hand towel). We could have asked for more but that shouldn't have been necessary.
