Buckler's Hard is a small shipbuilding village where vessels were constructed for Admiral Nelson's navy. The Master Builder's House was the residence of the head shipbuilder, Henry Adams.
The property is now a boutique hotel. It has stunning views of the Beaulieu River and its pretty marina.
You can dine in the AA-Rosette-awarded Henry's Pub. You'll find "hearty and comforting food... underpinned by well-sourced local ingredients", says The AA.
Buckler's Hard Maritime Museum tells the fascinating story of this picturesque hamlet. You could combine a visit with a riverside stroll to the village of Beaulieu. There's a path leading directly to it from Buckler's Hard.
The Beaulieu estate, home to 13th-century Beaulieu Palace House, is around five minutes' drive. The on-site National Motor Museum houses more than 280 notable vehicles. These range from a 1875 steam carriage to famous cars from the silver screen.
A host of walking and cycling opportunities await in the New Forest National Park. You can visit attractive villages including Lymington and Brockenhurst, spotting wild ponies on the way.

We had an excellent wonderful 2 night stay. Warm welcome from Alex who went out of her way to ensure we had everything we needed, including help with our luggage. The food is superb. All meals beautifully presented, varied and delicious.
The rooms are extremely clean with very comfortable beds, soft towels and robes and upmarket toiletries. The ambiance of the hotel is restful, with beautiful views down to the estuary. Highly recommended.
Other Comments
All of the staff were welcoming, friendly and helpful, especially Alex on reception who truly ensured that we had a wonderful relaxing stay. Nothing was too much trouble for her and we especially appreciated her help carrying our luggage up to the top floor as well as researching answers for our questions about the history of the house and plants in the beautiful gardens.

Fantastic location overlooking the beautiful Beaulieu river and marina. Lovely historic setting , walked into the town along the river, cruised down the river, so much to look at, museums old cottages etc. very nice food, breakfast was excellent, plenty of helpful staff.

A fantastic location in an historic setting. Excellent reception staff. Hotel, bar and restaurant were all busy and staff were working at full capacity to cope with demand. However, whilst table service was a little slow we had no complaints. An excellent room, the Thames, with a fantastic double aspect view.

It was a shame that the hotel restaurant is no longer open to residents but the pub menu was good and it was nice to be in a relaxed, informal atmosphere.

Enjoyed our stay staff all friendly and efficient. Riverside room not available so we’re in smaller room in newer building. Room fine but overlooked car park so noisy when cars drove over gravel.
Henry’s pub has lovely food and nice atmosphere. You can either dress up,or wear shorts and tea shirt, and won’t feel out of place.
Lovely to be part of the village and close to river trip, museum etc.

On arrival there was no hot water in the shower or wash basin tap. Reported to reception immediately. Receptionist had ,it seemed, dealt with this before as she came to our room (room14) and did a lot of adjustments to the shower controls to eventually get hot water. Thought problem solved, but next morning had to run shower for some time and fiddle with controls to get some warm water in shower. That evening, Thurs. 19th June, no hot water again, and doorknob fell off shower door! Settled for cold shower! Then heard shower running in next room (15) and found hot water was then available in both shower and basin in our room. Reported the situation to reception again that evening and took the doorknob to her and explained situation again. This conversation was overheard by Chris, the hotel manager who was in the back office. He was most apologetic and said it was unacceptable and he would arrange some form of compensation for our inconvenience, and we would have a phone call the next day(Fri.) with details of recompense. So far, we have heard nothing from the hotel (today is Monday 23rd June).

In common with many hotels, an irritation was that a double room was only provided with 1 chair.
It would have been nice to have a lounge area, other than in the bar, where one could sit quietly.

Room 21 on first floor. View over river from front and side windows. Very homely with lovely querky touches such as huge travelling trunk! Superb breakfast and good choice for dinner. We only stayed 2 nights and had sufficient coat hangers. May need to provide more for a longer stay and a chest of drawers would be useful. Liked the mini bottle of milk in fridge!

The only drawback of the hotel, which was down to its age was the noise that came through the floorboards from the bar area. Thankfully it wasn’t particularly busy whilst we were there. It could be a real problem at busy times.

The Master Builders House in the New Forest ‘Bucklers Hard’ walks nearby. Full of history. Accommodations. We stayed in the Henry Adams wing as we required twin beds. This area will have dogs if you wish to bring your K9. There were definitely a few staying. All well behaved. Bed and bedding, very comfortable and crisp cotton sheets and duvet covers. Pillows were comfortable. Bathroom, dated. Nice white cotton hand and bath towel's.
Electric car charging area for a few vehicles.
Breakfast very nice. Good hot and cold selection, nice pastries, fresh fruit. Granola.
We were surprised about the surcharge when we had our evening meal in the pub. This wasn’t highlighted or on the menu.
Overall we had a lovely time.

Warm welcome on arrival. Cosy warm room. No decaf teabags and only 3 coffee pods in room. Restaurant overpriced with limited choice and almost empty. No ambience. Staff started clearing vacant tables of glasses, crockery and cutlery during our meal. A little like when eating at MacDonalds. The bar offered a good choice of food and a warm, buzzing friendly atmosphere. Staff serving the bar rushed through the restaurant with bar food. Not a good experience.

Requested a shower as my wife struggles with bath. The ensuite was unacceptable with an old bath, cracked wc and damaged basin.
We were offered a small inferior room without a waterfront view and broken tv which we refused. We had no choice but to stay in the original room. The restaurant was overpriced plus 12.5% service. Checked out after only one night.
We are really upset as was our golden wedding andthe hotel did know this. The hotel has refunded but it doesn't compensate for ruining our golden wedding treat.

Great one night break at a hotel that we fancied made even more attractive by Travelzoo offer. Stayed in a nice Henry Adams room. All very good except that the bathroom possibly rather small and possibly a little dated. We dined in the restaurant where the menu offered a reasonably good choice and the food was well prepared and presented. Service uniformly excellent. Friendly and efficient. The location is unique and steeped in the history of the building of wooden fighting ships. Wonderful views across the Beaulieu river and lovely 2+ mile riverside woods walk into the very picturesque Beaulieu itself. We will return.

We had visited before but it was a long time ago and don't remember details - although certainly on one occasion we were in the main house. So we were a little surprised that the Henry Adams wing was all hard flooring, which was a little cold underfoot, particularly in the morning! It gave the room quite a basic feel, which isn't the impression the hotel gives. However all the staff were lovely, and the dinner and breakfast were both excellent.
