Itinerary highlights
Start your expedition in Reykjavík, before boarding Ultramarine the following afternoon. As you cruise across the Denmark Strait on days three and four, the onboard team will prepare you for the journey with educational presentations.

On days five and six, you will reach Greenland’s remote, uninhabited east coast. Explore its steep-walled fjords and cascading glaciers by helicopter, Zodiac, and foot. This ice-laden landscape offers opportunities to spot polar bears and humpback whales, as well as archaeological traces of ancient Paleo-Inuit settlements.

Experience the striking contrast between the Greenland Ice Sheet (the second largest in the world) and the lush, green valleys along the scenic west coast on days seven and eight. Take part in a helicopter landing directly onto the ice sheet, explore Norse history at the Kujataa UNESCO World Heritage site, and visit the local farming community of Qassiarsuk to learn about regional traditions.

On the final leg of the adventure, transit through the breathtaking Prins Christian Sund and the Tasermiut Fjord on days nine through eleven. Join a community visit to the frontier village of Aappilattoq to experience local food, music, and hunting culture. Your journey concludes with two relaxing days at sea recapping your experiences with onboard experts before disembarking back in Reykjavík on day fourteen.

Ship details
Ultramarine is one of Quark Expeditions' four purpose-built small ships. It debuted in 2021, and sails with just 199 guests at maximum capacity.

The ship carries two of its own Airbus helicopters, which give access to flightseeing, heli-hiking, and remote ice-sheet landings included. You can join paddle excursions, Zodiac cruising, hiking, and community visits, too. Attend fascinating lectures at the Ambassador Theatre where all seats have prime viewing of large screens. Join informal bar talks at the Panorama Lounge.

Alongside a 360-degree wraparound promenade, there are two main exterior viewing decks. The spa offers relaxing treatments, and the sauna has spectacular views through floor-to-ceiling windows. Active guests can work out in the fitness centre.

Balena Restaurant serves buffet breakfast and lunch, while dinner is ordered from an à la carte menu. Bistro 487 has both indoor and al fresco spaces. It offers light grab-and-go snacks and the occasional outdoor BBQ on the aft deck. Drinks, afternoon tea, and late-night snacks are also part of your all-inclusive package.

The suites onboard are some of the largest on any expedition ship. They all have ocean views, heated bathroom floors, and high-end bedding. Top-tier accommodations feature soaking bathtubs in addition to rain showers. Some have separate bedroom, dining, and living spaces.

Transfers & baggage
Return group transfers from Reykjavík hotel to ship departure (day two), and from the ship to a central location in Reykjavík (last day) are included.
