Itinerary
- Newcastle, UK... you'll board the Braemar in Newcastle and set sail across the North Sea to Norway
- Skjolden... a pretty red-roofed village surrounded by soaring mountains, once the home of the famous philosopher Ludwig Wittgenstein. The village is the starting point for optional excursions to the Feigum waterfalls, Jotunheimen mountains, and Jostedalsbreen, mainland Europe's largest glacier
- Scenic cruising around Fjaerslandsfjorden... head out onto the deck for the chance to photograph some quintessential fjordland scenery, with glittering fjords, tiny fishing villages, and snow-capped mountains galore
- Måløy... is a traditional Norwegian fishing village, and the starting point for optional excursions to Refviksanden Beach, where you can take a bracing dip in pristine glacier-melt waters
- Scenic cruising around Hornelen... you'll spend a day cruising around Europe's highest sea cliff, Hornelon. Local legend says a coven of witches gather here to dance with the devil on Midsummer's Eve
- Scenic cruising around Nordfjord... you'll cruise the 66-mile-long fjord, and get up close to scenery that "looks like it belongs on a film set", according to The Mirror
- Olden... this rural village sits at the eastern end of Nordfjord, and has a 14-century timber stave church, aptly called Old Church, that is typical of the region
- Newcastle, UK... finally, you'll sail back across the North Sea to Newcastle, where you'll disembark and make your own way home
Ship details
Balmoral is the flagship and largest vessel in the Fred. Olsen fleet, and holds 1350 passengers at full capacity, but it is still small enough to call at small ports out of reach of larger vessels.
The ship was fully refitted in 2017, and has nine bars and restaurants (supplements may apply at select venues), two heated swimming pools with whirlpools, and a theatre with a full programme of entertainment, including cabaret shows, comedy, dancing, and live music. Brit-friendly amentiies include unlimited self-service tea and coffee, included classic afternoon tea, and in-room sandwiches and snacks.
One of our favourite spots is the Observatory Lounge, which has floor-to-ceiling windows and is perfect for whiling away an afternoon with a good book.
