Why We Love This Hotel

  • Buckler's Hard is a small shipbuilding village where vessels were constructed for Admiral Nelson's navy. The Master Builder's House was the residence of the head shipbuilder, Henry Adams.
  • The property is now a boutique hotel. It has stunning views of the Beaulieu River and its pretty marina.
  • You can dine in the AA-Rosette-awarded Henry's Pub. You'll find "hearty and comforting food... underpinned by well-sourced local ingredients", says The AA.
  • Buckler's Hard Maritime Museum tells the fascinating story of this picturesque hamlet. You could combine a visit with a riverside stroll to the village of Beaulieu. There's a path leading directly to it from Buckler's Hard.
  • The Beaulieu estate, home to 13th-century Beaulieu Palace House, is around five minutes' drive. The on-site National Motor Museum houses more than 280 notable vehicles.
  • You could visit Exbury Gardens, located across the Beaulieu River. It's known for its displays of rhododendrons and azaleas, plus its riverside walks. It is also home to a narrow-gauge steam railway line.

Overall the experience was a good one. The location is fantastic and the food lovely. We enjoyed our walk to Beaulieu and our trip to the motor museum.

We had an attic room with a very low ceiling which was a problem for me at 6'4" tall. It was advertised as a Riverview room but due to the height of the windows and the orientation of the room (on the corner of the hotel) it was difficult to enjoy this - you would have to be standing up. One window blind was missing and another was broken. The safely chain to the window in the entrance porch was broken. There was no shower in the room. The room was however a good size albeit one and narrow. On arrival we asked at reception about the £60 dinner credit that was included in our package - she said that you would have no problem spending it by the time you added drinks. Our first nights dinner including drinks came to more than £60. However this wasn't deducted from our bill, only the food was. This was contrary to what we had been told by the receptionist. However, apart from apologising the receptionist on leaving was not prepared to rectify the position.

We had a great room with a comfortable bed . The food was excellent and the staff very attentive and friendly.
Other Comments
Our only minor complaint would be that we found the restaurant rather overheated and stuffy.

My partner and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at The Master Buikder's house. We enjoyed finding out about the history of the house. Staff were friendly and attentive. We also enjoyed eating in. We also had the entrance to Beaulie motor museum & house which was excellent. We have every intention of staying at The Master Builder's housr again in the near future. Thank you.

A delightful venue with delightful staff , nothing was too much trouble.

I do have one negative comment and that was about some of the meals. The roast beef was sadly like leather and the bacon at breakfast was not just crispy which I love but the bacon itself was cremated. Such a shame that this element let the hotel down other wise is was 5 * in every other respect.

Had a great weekend and enjoyed great accommodation and lovely food. Had an issue with our shower and staff were very helpful and found us another shower to use and reimbursed us for the inconvenience without having to ask. Only down side was the roast dinner was a little disappointing.
