The Blue Ball Inn is a historic coaching inn within scenic Exmoor National Park. This diverse landscape takes in woodland, moorland, and expansive coastlines.
Dating from the 13th century, the property features low ceilings, blackened beams, and stone fireplaces.
A menu of hearty pub classics and light bites is served in the restaurant. This offer includes £50 credit per room to use towards dinner.
The surrounding countryside offers a huge choice of walking routes. The South West Coast Path runs within a few hundred metres of the property.
The twin towns of Lynton and Lynmouth are around five minutes' drive away. They're connected by a Victorian funicular railway running up the steep gorge. It's reportedly the highest and the steepest water-powered railway in the world.

Plenty. Great ambience, a good location for walks, and the rooms felt very peaceful. King size beds, excellent breakfast.
Other Comments
The cleanliness of the room wasn't good (dog hairs and a dog biscuit left on the carpet, the bathroom was dirty around the toilet brush holder).
The idea of having spare supplies left out for guests was good, but the replacements were never topped up and remained virtually empty for our entire stay.

Food was great value for money but evening meals & Sunday Roast portions very large!! Maybe offers of smaller portions to avoid waste & overacting those of us with smaller appetites.

Slightly chaotic arrival on Sunday due to very busy pub and staff not anticipating same but great building, rooms, and mostly good food. Breakfast excellent, main evening meals excellent, one pudding was not so good and overpriced. Appreciated the complimentary local Gin and Cornish tonics in the room.

The downstairs (bar etc was OK)

Unfortunately we were allocated Room 16. The bathroom had had a renovation but on closer inspection, there were five things wrong with it. The toilet roll holder was not attached properly. The bath panel was pushed in at one end. The hot water tap moved when turned on. The flushing mechanism on the toilet was loose and the boxed in pipes hadn’t been painted properly. I have photos to corrobate all of the above.

Room basic but very nice. Fittings in the bathroom loose , chipped enamel bath. Otherwise very clean. The food was excellent and plentiful with lovely staff. Very good selection of bar drinks especially the real ales. ( recommend the Proper Job ) 2 concerns. Sugar cube bowls had no tongs therefore could be a healh hazard. We are elderly and struggled to navigate the outside steps. Handrails make life easier for some people please. Don't be put off though all in all a lovely 3 night stay. Thank you.

We did not get a front-facing or courtyard-facing room and were told they had been already booked when we made our booking - but we were not told this at the time of booking. We were told we would get a room with a walk-in shower, but found our room had a bath with shower over, which we cannot use. We were allocated a different room for the second and third nights which had a wet room and this was satisfactory. The Inn is old and very atmospheric, but has a steep staircase from reception and many steps inside which we found difficult. Staff were helpful, however, and carried our suitcases up and down when we left. Food was good and plentiful. It should be noted that the Inn is rather remotely located, even though it is directly on the A39, some miles from Lynton/Lynmouth. This was not a problem in itself. The Inn describes itself as dog-friendly and several other guests had dogs even in the restaurant which we did not like. One couple allowed their dogs to sprawl over the spaces between the tables, with the result that another, elderly, guest tripped over them and fell his full length, smashing a glass on our table in his fall. Fortunately he appeared to be uninjured, and the staff removed our food and replaced it in case fragments of glass had got into it. For us, this was probably a one-off visit to North Devon and we are unlikely to return there, but for all the reasons given, if we do we shall look for other accommodation.
