Why We Love This Deal
Staying at the Mermaid Inn is like stepping back in time. You'll be surrounded by beamed ceilings, cosy fireplaces, and wood panelling. Two-night stays at this 600-year-old inn are less than £100 per person from November until March. This saves 44–49% on the lowest rates we found available online.
This famous former smuggler's inn dates back to 1420. It was reputedly visited by Elizabeth I and has hosted the Queen Mother.
Our members love this property, praising the "lovely" food, "attentive" staff, and "fabulous" rooms.
There's a 2-AA-Rosette restaurant with an "atmospheric dining room". The "delightful" (The AA) public rooms include a bar and several lounges.
Camber Sands, a 3-mile-long sandy beach, is a 10-minute drive away. It's one of the UK's best spots for beachcombing (Daily Express). Kitesurfing is also a popular activity.
Camber Castle, a 16th-century fort built by Henry VIII, is five minutes' away. It's set within Rye Harbour Nature Reserve, where you might spot tern and oystercatchers.

Great place to stay; amazing to think it has been welcoming guests since the 1400s . Staff were all very welcoming and looked after us very well. We had 2 meals - both delicious- The breakfast was plentiful and all the staff in the restaurant were great.
The location was excellent. We were able to park at the mermaid Inn, which was very helpful.

It was a beautiful historic setting and the food was excellent if pricey. Parking was difficult and as drivers of an electric car, we were disappointed that the hotel's chargers were out of action.

I had not quite appreciated how far away the sea now was, since my last proper visit to Rye which was probably about 40 years ago!

Beautiful hotel based on centuries of history. Central to Rye which is like a time capsule. Quaint bar, charming character. Would love to stay midwinter and experience the huge fire.

Expect all the quirkiness of a very old hotel.
Car parking spaces tight and limited but they try and squeeze you in!
Restaurant only option of 2 / 3 course meal . Personally a main would have been enough, but there are bar options.

Greaat Hotel, with sloping floors, ceilings and staircases. Staff were very attentive and nothing was too much trouble. Food was great, well done to the chef.Would definitely come back.
Other Comments
No shower in our room apart from an attachment to the taps, this didn't bother us. Road can be noisy if you are staying at the front of the hotel, again didn't bother us. Car park is small but does have EV chargers that can be booked. Staff do move cars around if you are happy to leave your keys, unfortunately they left our car open and had moved the electronic seat.

Always a lovely experience
Room lovely although a lot of scuttling behind a wall - nice perhaps
Evening meal was perfection as was the service. My full English was a bit undercooked for my liking and sausage barely cooked so I’ll remember next time to say ‘well done please’! Previous visits I enjoyed the full English. I had the sourdough, avocado with poached eggs and that was lovely.
I love the hotel and all staff so attentive.
Def recommend a visit and in fact I’m returning next week for a two night stay with a different friend x

I asked st reception about the hotel tour and was told it’s the last Sunday if each month but then heard from bedroom window the your guide with about 10 guests talking about the hotel. It was a Thursday. I’d wanted to do the tour do was a bit disappointed.

The team were welcoming and helpful from our arrival to departure. Charlie was great in getting us into the car park and settled in to our room. The breakfast was good and the local sausages were lovely. The bar food was excellent. The general ambiance combined with the history meant that the Inn was an ideal base to explore the beautiful town of Rye.

If you are able to chose which car to bring, I would suggest taking the smaller one, as access is tight in the car park

This is a very old hotel, so you should expect uneven floorboards, lots of stairs and quirky rooms. We were there during a heatwave and whilst there is no air-conditioning, a fan had been provided and we slept well. A traditional hotel, with traditional service. A very pleasant stay.

For what we paid we knew we would have a small room and happy to accept this for such a fantastic venue. The bathroom was only just acceptable, I would have complained had I paid full price.

Staff were very helpful & friendly. Bedroom was very small with 3 steps uo to bathroom. As weather was hot an electric fan had been provided which we used all night. Good tea & coffee facilities in our room & a jug of iced water was provided on request. We felt dinner was rather overpriced for what we had, so ate out on the 2nd night. Very little choice of fruit at breakfast, just slices of melon, but cooked breakfast was good, with fast service.

e had an amazing time at the Mermaid Inn in Rye. The staff were so friendly and welcoming and went out of their way to help and advise us. The food was very good and there were several rooms were you could choose to eat either a full dinner menu or meals and snacks from the bar menu. We really enjoyed our stay there.

Emma in reception was exceptionally friendly and helpful. Judith the owner was really nice and a pleasure to meet.
The room was medieval looking or and very comfortable.
The battered fish on the bar menu was crunchy and delicious.
The car park is quite small (about 15 car spaces) but the staff are keen to help you park or show you where the nearest and cheapest places to park.
