We enjoyed our stay in this historic inn, the food was tasty and of good quality and portions. Our room was cosy and clean, but we thought the bathroom could do with update. Whilst I appreciate the decor is in keeping with the building, a shower would be preferable to bath with shower attachment on taps. There was a sign to say if there was water damage a charge would be made, but there is no shower screen or curtain. This meant I chose instead to have a bath but find getting in/out difficult. My friend cannot manage baths so had to make do with washes at the basin. Noise also travels easily, so can be difficult to sleep. There was a sign saying car park was full on our arrival so we found another car park and spent ages walking with cases trying to find inn. When we finally arrived we were informed there were plenty of spaces and someone hadn’t removed the sign! Very annoying. Staff were friendly and efficient, but our breakfast order had errors both mornings.

The Mermaid Inn is in a good central location and serves nice food, although a little more variety would be welcomed.

It was a beautiful historic setting and the food was excellent if pricey. Parking was difficult and as drivers of an electric car, we were disappointed that the hotel's chargers were out of action.

I had not quite appreciated how far away the sea now was, since my last proper visit to Rye which was probably about 40 years ago!
