More Reasons to Go

  • Ednam House dates from 1761. It sits on the banks of the River Tweed, enveloped by three acres of gardens.
  • The hotel's restaurant is "set in the gardens, with windows on three sides offering great views" (The AA). It's been awarded an AA Rosette for culinary excellence.
  • Kelso Abbey was one of Scotland's largest religious houses. Its impressive ruins are less than a minute's stroll from the hotel.
  • From the hotel, meander upriver to enjoy the local Cobby Riverside Walk. Look out over the Rivers Tweed and Teviot, with Floors Castle in the distance.
  • Sir Walter Scott called Kelso "the most beautiful if not the most romantic village in Scotland." The Sir Walter Scott trail is a circular driving route starting from the town centre. It explores the places he visited, Abbotsford, and the scenery that inspired his literary works.
  • Melrose Abbey is the final resting place of the heart of Robert the Bruce. It is a 25-minute drive from the hotel.

Rooms were comfortable and yes fixtures and fitting were a little dated but very in keeping with the beautiful old building.

Food is very good, but £30 per person towards the meal doesn’t cover one course if you have the steak as we did.
Other Comments
The room was a lovely size but the bed really needs replacing for a more comfortable sleep. The bathroom was very nice.

The setting of the hotel was fantastic, plenty of room to park the car. The staff were very helpful and friendly, the rooms were clean and comfortable but could do with a lick of paint. The breakfast was ok not a lot of choice of fresh fruit . There were interesting walks that could be done from the hotel, we had a lovely break , thank you to all the staff who made us feel at home

Hotel and food very good. Room ok, with the exception of the bed. The mattress was well past it's best making a very disturbed sleep waking up with aches. This sadly let the stay down.

Great location
Other Comments
Tv too small in bedroom. Cobwebs, curtains should have black out lining. Charged 10% on meal allowance? Seemed to be given room furthest away from reception. Unable to eat in bar as hadn't booked?
