Why We Love This Hotel
- The Townhouse Chester was refurbished last year. There is a cosy lounge and an outdoor terrace.
- Take a leisurely walk or boat ride at the River Dee, two minutes' walk away. The Groves, a scenic riverside path, has a choice of cafes, pubs, and restaurants.
- Head into nearby Grosvenor Park to visit the Roman Amphitheatre and gardens. It is 10 minutes' walk away.
- The city walls are known for being some of the most ancient and complete in Britain. They offer an elevated position from which to admire the city. Access points are at Northgate, Eastgate, Watergate, and Bridgegate.
- Chester's boutiques and independent shops are less than five minutes' walk away. The Rows are half-timbered galleries dating from the Medieval era.

Great location, very clean hotel and lovely helpful staff. Lovely big room on top floor but the stairs where a challenge as no lift but we managed though and worth the climb to top floor as room was lovely. Lovely breakfast and free prossecco in room is a nice touch.

We were pleasantly surprised when we arrived at The Townhouse. An excellent location. Handy for the river and town centre. Our bedroom was spacious and quiet. The whole hotel looks as if it has been fairly recently refurbished and also has a comfortable lounge. There was a good choice for breakfast which was cooked well. The staff were all friendly and helpful and we would definitely go there again.

We had a fantastic two nights . The beautiful Georgian building was lovely inside and was so well presented sensitive to the period . Excellent beds , excellent bathroom. Actually the word excellent could be used for every aspect of the hotel including staff , breakfast ,outside area ,management , location and value for money . We would highly recommend it to anyone !!!!

The travelzoo offer was great value for money making it possible to take an overnight stay with a friend. Location close to river is excellent and rooms were well furnished with everything you could need eg fan, hairdryer,water etc.

Chose this hotel to celebrate our wedding anniversary as it was close to the river and central for all the main attractions in Chester. The room was a decent size with a comfortable bed. It had tea & coffee facilities which we liked. The breakfast was included in the Travelzoo deal and it was really nice and set us up for the day. There are lots of restaurants in the area and all the main attractions in Chester are in walking distance. The staff were very friendly & helpful and we would certainly stay here again on our next trip to Chester.

Nothing at all to complain about at the Townhouse. Staff were very helpful, polite and professional. Breakfast was excellent and plenty of choice. Location of the Townhouse was perfect. You could reach everywhere in the city within 30 minutes stroll. signage in Chester is not the best but that's nothing to do with the hotel !!! All in all if you want to visit Chester (and its well worth a visit) then The Townhouse is highly recommended. I will certainly be back. Thanks to all for making our stay even more enjoyable.

Prior to our visit we spoke to Becky in Reception and when we arrived it was a pleasure to meet such a pleasant young lady. We also enjoyed conversations with Nicola (the owner) and also chatted to Rita, Laura, Pedro and Jeff, who were all so friendly and helpful but also extremely professional. Breakfast had the most amazing choices and well done to Scott - the Chef. Excellent staff and great location, so easy to park and then walk about 500mts to the hotel. Really pleasenat and attentive staff and comfortable room. It is a listed building and single glazed so the road noise is evident until around 12 midnight, but I take ear plugs so did not really bother me. Excellent location so close to all the attractions and many good restaurants, breakfast was plentiful in choice and freshly prepared hot selection.

Location very good - no.parking onside but nearby public parking. Staff friendly, relaxed and efficient. Bed - probably the most comfortable I have found in a hotel to-date. Hower livdly with plenty if hot water. Breakfast lovely. Highly recommend but be aware, no lift.

Room was cold on the top floor , 3rd floor in the loft of an old listed building with steep and many steps making it extremely difficult for my wife who has only a week ago had knee surgery. Also felt like we had to bend all the time in the room due to the many angled eaves around the room with a very small bathroom / shower room. No bath… Free Prosecco was worth £5.49 from Aldi compared to your confirmation , stating it was worth £30.00 and reluctant to make available. Sorry to say , overall disappointing.

The only issue with this hotel is that it does not have spaces to park and the options were to either pay for parking in a public carpark and walk to the hotel or park on a street some distance away. However this would not stop me staying in this hotel again if I had to visit the area.

Room was very large with extra beds although only 2 could book on this deal, it was dark and looked on to a firee escape. The floor above creaked noisily everytime the occupants above moved about.

Knew they didn’t have a lift and wasn’t concerned, but what I didn’t realise that the stairs would be so steep. We were on the third floor in what I presume was the original servants quarters, room was fine but the steps going up were so steep they took your breath away particularly when carrying a case. Like the hotel and would ask for a room on a lower floor next visit.

Excellent deal through Travelzoo for 2 nights inc breakfast and a bottle of Prosecco. Very good location, (but no parking) best car park is in Grosvenor shopping centre, the breakfast choice was very good, staff were very polite and efficient. The room we stayed in was no.5 which was ideal for our 2 nights, if you plan on staying longer and have suitcases go for a bigger room. The hotel has obviously undergone some sort of refurbishment in last couple of years which meant carpets and fittings etc. all still newish. Would definitely recommend for a short break.

The Townhouse Chester was lovely and decorated fantastic for Christmas. My friend has COPD and I did not do any research in advance, so did not realise there was no lift. We were on the top floor with no lift. Difficult to say the least. The staff were amazing and the breakfast was superb and freshly made and hot unlike so many other hotels.

Lovely hotel. Obvious drawback is lack of lift but that was clearly spelt out in the particulars. Didn’t particularly like being given a bedroom with 2 extra single beds in it. Had booked a double room which had an armchair according to the photo and would have preferred that really. But not a big issue. Breakfast was really good - freshly cooked and great choice. We were made to feel very welcome on arrival and throughout our stay, which lead to a very enjoyable experience.
We had our dog with us and it was great to stay in a nice room with our dog rather than being relegated to the old shabby rooms, as is so often the case in other establishments.
The hotel was clean, tidy, welcoming and the breakfast was delicious.

Lovely building. Nice welcome. Large family room but with limited storage. Nowhere to hang long items like dresses and nowhere for coats especially if wet- perhaps a hook on back of door? Only one chair- this room would sleep 3 people. Plenty of room to accommodate more chairs instead of sitting on beds. Breakfast excellent- lots of choice and great service. Access to our room was up two flights of stairs (no lift). However, the reception staff cheerfully helped carry luggage to the room. Even so, this hotel is not suitable for guests with mobility issues. We parked in the Grosvenor Centre car park using Hozah autopay (requires prior registration). This worked well and we found a way through the shopping centre using its lifts and smooth floors which was ideal for our wheeled suitcases and which took us most of the way to the hotel.

Our second stay here through a Travelzoo deal and we weren't disappointed.
We couldn't check in before 3.00 but the reception staff were happy to keep our bags safe and advise on car parking so that we could start exploring the lovely city of Chester straight away.
Beautifully presented and very clean throughout. Bedrooms are large with everything you need to enjoy a comfortable stay.
Fantastic breakfast was included in the price.
We would definitely stay there again.

Great hotel, staff very friendly, lovely tasty breakfast. The only drawback was the bathroom,
New fixture and fittings but when opening the shower room door, there is about 2cm between door and toilet! The mirror on the wall has the sink and toilet Infront of it, so difficult for my husband to see to shave!. Everything else was great and would gladly return. Hotel is in a great location

There is no lift, but managed to carry small suitcase up three flights of stairs, some older people may need a member of staff to help

Hotel absolutely immaculate, lovely bedroom, excellent breakfast. We loved our weekend there, right in the middle of town so able to go back for a coffee. Token for the car park meant that we were able to park for 24 hours in the city centre for £10.50

Felt very welcome. Best thing of all - the staff were so pleasant and SMILED all the time. Nothing was too much trouble. Superb value.

Lots of steps/stairs. Breakfast unsatisfactory for vegan guests despite prior warning. No vegan sausage despite advertising them on menu. Poor shower little pressure. Duty staff on arrival offered to help with cases. Nice fluffy towels.

Parking worked well with discount provided. Poor timing with city marathon on Sunday so access hard into centre.

Recently refurbished Georgian Town House. Very comfortable room (might be small for 2). Stylish bathroom but problem with water temperature in shower on 2nd day. Excellent breakfast. Unnecessary prosecco - I didn't want a free bottle and left it behind. Never good value for single travellers! But this is a pleasant independent hotel in an excellent location for visiting Chester and I would stay there again.

Large comfortable rooms with modern spacious en suite. Could do with a pair of easy chairs. The building is tall, 4 floors , although ground floor is basement, 1st floor(up steps from pavement) is reception, dining and bar, then 2 accommodation floors. 3rd floor being top floor. (4th) There is no lift, so you need to be fit, and travel light. The majority of customers were our age group (60-70+) Staff were very friendly and always keen to help, a credit to the hotel. Meals were excellent and well presented.

This hotel would benefit greatly with the installation of a lift, I,m sure there is room in the stairwell to house one. Even a 'dumb waiter' for sending luggage upstairs would help.

A superb night away with a friend. Staff were fantastic, they couldn't do enough for us. We booked an afternoon tea on arrival, which was just delicious. The bedroom and facilities were lovely and breakfast the next morning was excellent. Can't fault it. We would definitely stay again.

Excellent almost all round,particularly the staff. Breakfast first class. Parking discount with Pepper Street excellent.Our room,probably because we were on a "deal", was small and the bathroom miniscule with the sink placed above the lavatory. No 8 Not to be recommended for anyone over 12 stone!

Check in was smooth and bottle chilled Prosecco waiting in our room. Room comfortable although shower room was quite small. Breakfast was good (both of us had variations of full english) and service good too. Staff we met all nice and friendly. We opted to eat and drink out so cannot comment on this although I do feel we may have done this if pricing had been more attractive. This being said, the overall deal for the 2 night B & B break was very good value for money. Hotel doe's not have car parking although it is based well in the town centre.
