Why We Love This Hotel

  • Lake Windermere is a 10-minute drive from the Damson Dene Hotel. So too is Bowness-on-Windermere for The World of Beatrix Potter Attraction and lake cruises.
  • The hotel takes its name from the damson tree orchards found throughout the Lyth Valley. Admire the pastoral landscapes from the hotel's landscaped gardens or Heron View restaurant.
  • Leisure facilities include an indoor swimming pool, Jacuzzi, sauna, steam room, and gym. Treatments can be booked (at a supplement) at the Indulgence Beauty Rooms.
  • The Lakeland Model Village is a family attraction located in the hotel's grounds. It features several dozen handcrafted buildings that replicate some of Cumbria's most iconic farms and cottages. Tickets are included for Travelzoo members.
  • For stunning views, hike in Whitbarrow National Nature Reserve or climb Orrest Head. Both are within 15 minutes' drive of the hotel.

Bathroom needs a little updating, bath was missing some enamel, and plumbing was noisy.

Bathroom a little tired but very clean. Beds very comfortable, plenty of tea, coffee etc in the room. Staff lovely, garden outside beautiful, the cheeky ducks were a delightful bonus! The miniature Lakeland village in the garden was fabulous and well worth a look. The food was decent pub grub, generous portions , and the self serve breakfast was good. The setting was great and the hotel itself felt friendly and welcoming, I’d go again.

Excellent location and lovely garden. Miniature village was interesting and was an unusual extra in the grounds. Staff were helpful and food was fine. We didn't use the leisure facilities so one night was sufficient for our needs.

Standard room and shower are really quite small. If returning I would definitely upgrade.

We received a nice welcome at the hotel and our room was very comfortable and had great views. Our stay at the Damson Dene was very relaxing. The hotel inside space is comfortable and the garden is beautiful to relax with a drink. The dining room overlooks the garden and fields beyond and the resident ducks provide entertainment saying hello at breakfast. There is plenty of choice on the menu and the food is nice and hot. All the staff are very polite and friendly and delivered a great service. The only thing which could be improved is perhaps replace or reupholster some of the chairs in the bar area. We have already booked to return to the hotel in August with friends.

We had another wonderful stay at the Damson Dene Hotel, which remains our favourite hotel in the Lake District. Our room was lovely, the bed was extremely comfortable, and the food was absolutely delicious. The staff were all so friendly and welcoming, and everything throughout the hotel was spotless and very well maintained. We also loved the beautiful grounds and relaxing spa facilities. Thank you once again for such an enjoyable stay — we will definitely be back!

Good hotel , service, staff excellent . Food very good. Plenty to see locally and hotel gardens lovely.
Other Comments
Room was OK but on the small side. Only downside was the walls were very thin so adjoining room noise could be a problem
