Why We Love This Hotel

  • Lake Windermere is a 10-minute drive from the Damson Dene Hotel. So too is Bowness-on-Windermere for The World of Beatrix Potter Attraction and lake cruises.
  • The hotel takes its name from the damson tree orchards found throughout the Lyth Valley. Admire the pastoral landscapes from the hotel's landscaped gardens or Heron View restaurant.
  • Leisure facilities include an indoor swimming pool, Jacuzzi, sauna, steam room, and gym. Treatments can be booked (at a supplement) at the Indulgence Beauty Rooms.
  • The Lakeland Model Village is a family attraction located in the hotel's grounds. It features several dozen handcrafted buildings that replicate some of Cumbria's most iconic farms and cottages. Tickets are included for Travelzoo members.
  • For stunning views, hike in Whitbarrow National Nature Reserve or climb Orrest Head. Both are within 15 minutes' drive of the hotel.

Excellent first impression on entering the hotel. Impressive log fire gave the longe/reception area a warm and very welcoming feeling. Check in was a breeze with a a friendly receptionist and given the key to room 41, an upgrade I had requested by phone a couple of weeks earlier. Delighted on entering our room for our 3 nights stay, a very large ground floor room and a large bathroom with walk in shower and excellent cleanliness too!. There was a terrace and steps down on to a the grassed area by the pond and we were delighted to say the least! Quality tea, coffee, hot chocolate sachets, biscuits and also quality toiletries too, what's not to love? Really enjoyed the well presented and delicious food we were served in the well run dining room with efficient and smiling staff. We also enjoyed the bar too for drinks inside and out on the terrace and banter with other friendly guests and the barman. Overall a fantastic stay in the Damson Dene Hotel with comfortable bed for a good nights rest. Would we recommend to family and friends? A definite Yes, so impressed we've just recently booked another 3 nights stay for my 70th Birthday and bringing my brother, his wife and their dog too, for our celebration. Hope its every bit as good as we had on our previous stay.

Our only disappointment was to be told a few hours after checking in that we'd been given the wrong room and we had to move the following day to room 46 upstairs after breakfast. A pain having to pack and then unpack again. But it didn't put me off. Just hope we don't have a repeat experience for our next stay in July. Keith and Jean Hands Liverpool
