Why We Love This Hotel
- Lake Windermere is a 10-minute drive from the Damson Dene Hotel. So too is Bowness-on-Windermere for The World of Beatrix Potter Attraction and lake cruises.
- The hotel takes its name from the damson tree orchards found throughout the Lyth Valley. Admire the pastoral landscapes from the hotel's landscaped gardens or Heron View restaurant.
- Leisure facilities include an indoor swimming pool*, Jacuzzi, sauna, steam room, and gym. Treatments can be booked (at a supplement) at the Indulgence Beauty Rooms.
- The Lakeland Model Village is a family attraction located in the hotel's grounds. It features several dozen handcrafted buildings that replicate some of Cumbria's most iconic farms and cottages. Tickets are included for Travelzoo members.
- For stunning views, hike in Whitbarrow National Nature Reserve or climb Orrest Head. Both are within 15 minutes' drive of the hotel.

The hotel it self is fine especially if you want some where nice and quiet and relaxing. The fire place in reception is wonderful and the sauna and pool a nice extra.

The hotel has some lovely features especially the big fire in the lounge. Room was small but well equipped and the bed was comfy and very clean. Enjoyed the sauna and pool. We always look forward to the evening meal but unfortunately it fell well short of resteraunt standards. The breakfast had lots of choice but again the cooked food all laid out under hot lamps etc so so not the quality we would expect.
A shame as I really feel the hotel could and should do better.

Very good deal via Travelzoo with half board and bottle Prosecco on arrival.
Room was small and basic but beds v comfortable and we had a bath - always appreciated. Would have appreciated more working plug sockets especially near bed including USB but you can’t have everything! Staff and food were excellent and roaring fire in lounge was great as was view from dining room/lounge.

A lovely hotel with friendly staff and excellent food both evening and at breakfast. We didn't have any spare treatments but the pool, sauna and steam rooms were an added bonus. The hotel is ideally situated for visiting the Lakes.

Although the check in receptionist was unfriendly, and we felt we were putting her out by checking in, the receptionist at check out was good.

The hotel corridors were so narrow and bedrooms were tiny (3mx5m including the bathroom) with no room to move, particularly the bathroom. The plan was obviously to cram as many rooms into the space as possible. The shower was so small you hit your elbows on the walls when washing your hair. The bed was immediately below the small window, and as the room was so hot, we had the window open which meant we had a very cold draft down our necks all night. It felt like we were in a caravan or ferry cabin.
We also advance booked a massage each (one of the reasons for booking this venue), but this was cancelled 2 hrs prior to the appointment due to illness.
Breakfast was very disappointing, with a buffet available. However, when deciding to book this offer, I checked out their breakfast menu on their website, items that had caught my eye, eg eggs Benedict, were not available. Only a bowl of scrambled and a plate of sad looking fried eggs as part of the buffet.
We chose not to eat dinner at the hotel, even though a £30pp credit was included. And we booked and paid for 2 nights, but left after one as we could not stand to stay any longer.

Upgraded to a larger room , mainly for a larger bed. The room was on the ground floor overlooking the garden and duck pond.
Nice room with a good sized bathroom with shower.
The only negative was it was too warm at night even with the radiators turned off.
The restaurant was first class for breakfast and evening meals with a varied menu.
The hotel is located about 4 miles from Bowness up a B road.
Altogether a good value break.

This was a Christmas present from me to my partner. We knew of the hotel because we live not far away. We enjoy short affordable breaks away and this was definitely a success. I would also recommend a visit to the model village in the hotel grounds.

We were given a large room with a four poster bed and jacuzzi bath. The view from the window was pleasant, and a visit to the model village is a must. The dinner was delicious, hot and so was the buffet breakfast. Very good value for money.

even though we really enjoyed the cabin, the hotel had changed the menu and it was very confusing as to what food they were serving, Also, on the first night which was a Sunday, they had ran out of a lot of the menu items which made the selection very limited. Having said that they did make up for it and I can understand that when you make changes, it always take time to deal with the hiccups.

Great value offer from Travelzoo, which attracted us to take this 2 night break. Part of the offer was to stay in a Standard Twin Room, which turned out to be a decent size but unfortunately the shower cubicle was far too small (about 70cm x 70cm). The room and en-suite had obviously had an refit within the last year or two. The heating was very good, which was appreciated, the weather wasn't very good..!!
The hotel is 3 star and is in good condition, the Heron View restaurant is lacks appeal and is noisy, with hardwoord floors, windows and walls not helping the accoustics.
The staff are excellent and the food choices are very good, with a varied menu and a new "chefs specials" menu each night.
There is a deightful and large lounge with a massive fireplace and a raging fire, which was so welcoming.
We didn't visit the swimming pool, but it was a decent size. My wife did visit the Spa and Sharon provided an excellant full body massage.
Overall our visit was very good, but we probably not return, if we did we would upgrade to a larger room. We have a lot of 2 to 3 day breaks around the UK each year and have a few favourites that we return to.
I would recommend that other people visit to make up their own minds.

This was my second visit to Damson Dene. Previously id gone with my husband but this time I went with a group of 5 friends.
Both slightly different experiences. It's a lovely venue for couples...quiet, quite romantic setting with a lovely bar area and fabulous food. We sat in the bar & met a lovely couple. But equally with my girl friends, we had lovely family rooms, and were able to spread out. We also used the pool/spa facilities which were great and then sat in the reception bar with a roaring fire until the early hours having a drink and a laugh. We visited the model village which is lovely. Parking is fab! All very relaxing and special in both circumstances. Will definitely be back a third time!!! Maybe bring the grandkids next time 🤣👍🏻xxxx

The bed was too small. The bathroom was much too small and badly laid out as a consequence. The dining experience was poor. Food came out too fast for it to have been prepared fresh and was below par. The restaurant staff were brusque and unfriendly. Finally, we did not realise until after we had booked that the hotel was dog friendly. One person had three dogs. I like dogs but in my opinion and that of many of our friends and family, hotels and restaurants are not places to bring dogs.

We enjoyed our stay at the Damson Dene. The food in the restaurant was very good and there were lovely countryside views from the large picture windows as well as of the pretty gardens. There was a cosy atmosphere in the public lounge area and staff were friendly and helpful. Our room was a good size and had everything we needed.

We recently enjoyed a fabulous 2-night stay at the Damson Dene Hotel and couldn’t have been more delighted. Although we had to book two separate nights in different rooms, the team went above and beyond by upgrading us to a lovely suite for both nights — such a thoughtful gesture that made our visit extra special.
All the staff were exceptionally friendly, welcoming, and professional, creating a warm and relaxed atmosphere throughout our stay. The evening meals were very good, and the breakfasts were absolutely superb, with a wide range of both hot and cold options to suit every taste.
The bottle of Prosecco waiting for us on our first night was very welcome, and we also made the most of the spa facilities — a real bonus and a perfect way to unwind.
This was our second visit, and it certainly won’t be our last. We’re already looking forward to returning. Highly recommended!

Bedroom was disappointing. We had to move rooms because of the miniscule shower/bathroom. The staff were very accommodating in offering us a change of rooms with a much better bathroom. However we sacrificed the bed size from 6ft to 4ft 6in wide and although the wardrobe space was significantly improved, there was only one chair.

The staff were outstanding in every department. The hotel and bedrooms were very clean. The service in the restaurant was excellent and the food offering was outstanding at dinner with an excellent variety and a daily changing menu. We were spoilt for choice.

We were in a 'standard' room which was very small with an even smaller bathroom. We took the opportunity to look at family and superior rooms during our stay and they were far better. The staff were very helpful, particularly Harry on reception. The choice and quality of food was excellent and many of the customers were returning guests over many years. We will definitely return.

Our room was very good and comfortable, especially the bathroom, which had a lovely shower and a suite which seemed to have been very recently replaced. The gardens are pleasant, well kept and we enjoyed hearing the ducks and watching the moorhens on the pond. Hotel staff were superb - very helpful and friendly and the restaurant was able to cater for my food intolerances with minimal fuss. The food was good, with several choices available for vegetarians and vegan choices too, both for main meals and (the self-service) breakfast. We were joined by friends, also staying for two nights, who unfortunately were in a very small room with bothersome lights outside, so not all rooms as as good as ours was. Damson Dene was well placed for short car rides to walks or the Windermere tour boats. In all we had a very comfortable stay, thank-you.

Lovely country area.All staff were brilliant.Room was a good size and very clean.Evening meal was 7 out of 10 (beef was not a good flavour and was tough/rubbery.Gravy not to my liking but plenty of good well cooked vegetables.Mussels starter was superb.

All in all... very good.

We stayed in a small but functional room and ate fantastic food - both the evening meal and breakfast were excellent. There was a great fire burning in the main lounge area, where we sat on very comfortable sofas chatting to fellow guests over a glass or two of wine. The model village in the grounds is extraordinary.

From the moment we stepped into the Hotel, the staff couldn’t do enough, they were all delightful, special mention to Viktoria and Aaron but everyone was so friendly and helpful.
We were so impressed with the deal we had and the food was absolutely outstanding.
We loved the location 10 minute drive from Bowness on Windermere. The room was immaculate and we both slept very well. The lounge area has a lovely log fire that would be very welcoming on a cold winters day. The grounds of the hotel are stunning and very well maintained. We made use of the pool, steam, sauna and jacuzzi, although it’s quite compact it was great for what we used it for.
We definitely would love to a return bisit if we could have the same deal again.

We have recommended it to everyone we know and would love to visit again, it’s a long way from our home in Swansea but definitely worth it.

When we checked in we were told there was a problem with hotel boiler and given 3 options, one of which was to change booking to Newby Bridge hotel. We chose that option even though hotel is approx 25 mins drive. After waiting approx half hour to check in there the hotel rang through to say boiler now fixed. However given additional time we had already spent driving, we chose to stay in other hotel. Therefore we cannot really comment on stay at Damson Dene as we stayed at an alternative hotel.

First morning there was no hot water. Had to gave a cold shower. Had to move rooms. Think yge staff lived in room above as was very noisy at 7am...someone getting ready for work probably.
We booked for the spa facilities but couldn't use the pool as it was freezing cold.
Had to send steak meal back as it was "off". Second night, should gave been a pork roast, but was all fat, no pork to be seen. Awful.

From the moment of booking to our checkout the experience was wonderful. A most helpful booking agent (Harry) when our credit card had problems. Also very helpful in providing us with a suitable room. Check in was easy, parking convenient. The Travel Zoo offer was exceptional value for money. The food was superb each evening with wide range of options. Wine was a reasonable price. Service excellent at all meals and the Chef was able to sort out additional veggie options for my wife. Breakfast was also very good with a wide range of options. All in all this was an exceptional stay in all aspects. Our thanks go to Harry and Natalie on reception. Yuri, Aaron, Sean, Victoria, Chris, in the restaurant. Room was great with lovely location overlooking the garden. The Chef and Sou Chef provided fantastic food and clearly are at the top of their game. The bottle of Prosecco in the room was very good too.

I would one hundred percent recommend the hotel, food and staff. The hotel has had a revamp since we last visited and it’s made a lovely improvement. The large log fire burning at reception with the four sofas around is so welcoming. The reception was simple and organised with again staff very welcoming making you feel at home.
Our room was lovely and clean, large and not cramped at all with a comfortable bed. Lots of storage for clothes with iron, ironing board, hairdryer, everything you could need, including coffee and tea making facilities with biscuits .
The dining area was light with a good selection of food on the evening menu. The food was well prepared and cooked with friendly table service. Breakfast again in the same room all selfservice with everything to suit all tastes. I had full English excellent.
Lovely well kept gardens and ample parking.
A big thank you to all the staff who made our stay so enjoyable. We will be back.

Had a lovely stay at Samson Dene Hotel, set in lovely grounds with the model village, greated by a log burning fire very cosy welcoming, our room number 24 had a view over the countryside with an suite bathroom, staff very friendly and helpful, our package included the model village, swimming pool with hot tub, sauna and steam room also has a gym, dinner allowance was £30 each had a lovely meal and all for £129 per room, don't think you could get better value.

Very efficient and welcoming check in. We were given a room with a four poster bed which was a nice surprise. Room was spotless and had everything we needed. I pre booked dinner which was so good. Great choice and large portion sizes. A drink in the lounge in front of a real fire was a lovely end to the day. The receptionist when checking out recommended an amazing walk at Gummers How not too far from the hotel. Never been to this part of the Lakes but would definitely go back.

Beautiful location and gardens. Nice room overlooking the gardens with more than adequate facilities. Squeaky floorboards from the room above and poor insulation from noise was the only negative.
We used the gym and swimming pool which was an added bonus.
Staff were friendly and helpful. Good food with the added benefit of Travelzoo's offer which meant we didn't pay anything extra for our evening meal. It even included a bottle of Prosecco. Great value for money.

We stayed for one night at Damson Dene. We arrived very early but spent time looking around the beautiful grounds and miniature village. We also used the gym and spa before it was time to check in. Our room had a four poster bed with jacuzzi bath. We also received a free bottle of prosecco. The hotel has a large area to sit around an open fireplace. The lobbies and public toilets were clean and the staff were very friendly and helpful.

A lovely hotel. Very social, friendly and accommodating staff. We arrived a couple of hours early. However, we were able to use the leisure facilties prior to check in. Also the same was afforded to us after check out. We had booked a table for dinner. The food was very good at a reasonable price. The standard double room was a bit small. The bathroom was lovely and modern. The roomband bsyhroon was very clean. The bed was comfortable.
I believe he leisure facilities are going through a refurbishment. Currently the men's changing room is dated. The lockers are limited. The 10m pool could do with an few degrees increase in its water temperature. The jacuzzi only accommodates two people. Getting in and out of the jacuzzi not easy. There does not appear to be any steps into the jacuzzi. The steam room is okay although the light was out. The sauna a little old and tired. The coals were exposed. There could be som protection surrounding it.
I could not help but notice, during the three hours that we were there: on each occasion, the pool water and the jacuzzi were not tested. It was evident that the jacuzzi had had its chemicals added before our second visit because the fumes off the jacuzzi were very strong effecting the back of our throats.
Overall it was a good stay.

My friend left some clothes in the wardrobe when we checked out which we didn’t realise until early evening on booking into our next hotel. We called the hotel to inform them. They said that nothing had been handed in by housekeeping (possibly not checked it) but had new guests had checked in by then. Two days later when we were leaving the Lakes, my friend dropped into the hotel to retrieve her clothes. They said nothing had been found but my friend noticed a bag of clothes at the back of reception, which contained 2 of the 3 items left. A Ralph Lauren shirt was missing and has not been located.

The hotel was really nice and had a steam room, sauna, jacuzzi and pool which we got to use all of. The staff were really lovely and couldn't be more polite or helpful.

The reception and waiting staff were the best. Everyone was so nice and polite and nothing was too much trouble. We loved our time here and would not hesitate to come back.

The tables in the restaurant were so sticky that even the cutlery stuck to them, the restaurant floor hadn't been cleaned from the previous evening when my husband spilled some food on it. Despite asking, we were never given admission to the Lakeland model village and the beds were not comfortable, very disapointing

Hotel location is lovely, room was very small and basic, the window was blown so couldn't see through it, bathroom minute. evening meal was excellent, service was very good but the breakfast was poor and the coffee was awful. Eggs benedict on the menu but it was unavailable and the breakfast buffet was cold.

Pleasantly surprised about this hotel and the deal was excellent value for money. Set in lovely grounds, all the staff were friendly and helpful especially Arron who we found extremely helpful and efficient in his work.
We were late eating so the sea bass had run so we ended up with the salmon instead but still delicious. Breakfast was plentiful too with lots of choice on the morning.
There did seem to be a lot of dogs staying at this hotel so if you don’t like dogs bear this in mind although they’re not allowed in the restaurant only the bar area.
We also had a massage on the morning after breakfast from Sharon which was most enjoyable before we left after using the pool facilities. The facilities seemed to be the only downside to this hotel, classed as spa facilities but it definitely isn’t and did seem a little tired.
All in all great value for money and would definitely return and recommend to others.

Pool facilities seem a little tired and need updating. Maybe extending too as there was a lot of people using this at the same time and there’s not much room at all in the changing rooms.

A lovely hotel set in a quiet valley with stunning gardens. Our large bedroom overlooked the main road which was not an issue as the area is so quiet. Food was top notch and service great, all employees were very happy and helpful. We will be going back to this hotel and try others in the group. A fantastic stay only wish we had booked for more than one night.

My.husband had a knee operation 4 weeks previously and was in a lot of pain. I rang the hotel to ask for an accessible room. They allocated room 43 with an accessible bathroom with walk in shower and parking right outside the room. Perfect. I drove around to the main car park for breakfast and evening meals so he only had to walk a short distance. Breakfast was great with loads of choice and the evening meal was excellent with lots of choice. My son and girlfriend joined us and we used the £30 allowance for two of us. Its quite a drive to Windermere but the hotel is set in beautiful grounds with a pool jacuzzi and sauna (steam room was out of service. All very friendly and very clean.

Staff were great even before we arrived. I have allergies and requested a room that had not been occupied by animals. That was fulfilled on arrival, but I was reassured before arrival that I was able to have that.

The food was excellent. Presentation of the meal and taste were superb, more 4-5 star than three. Lovely grounds and it was peaceful. We enjoyed the model village , and the watching the ducks on the pond.
Staff were lovely. Couldn’t do enough for you. We had an accident with a jug of milk which was our fault, and I ended up covered in milk at breakfast. Staff rushed to help us clear up and I was offered to have my clothes washed by the hotel if I needed that. Honestly, service was superb.

We had a fabulous stay at Damson Dene. Our room was very comfortable, with a bottle of chilled prosecco waiting for us. The bathroom was luxurious and roomy, with a big freestanding bath and a large shower too. Our evening meal was delicious, with an extensive menu to choose from, and beautifully presented. Equally the breakfast was very good - lots of choice and something for everyone. The staff are all friendly, helpful and attentive, and we will definitely return in the future

June 21st 2025…Staff were brilliant, Spa, Gym and Pool are great a real hidden gem. Food fabulous and the rooms were spotless modern and comfortable. Only a 15 min drive to Windermere and 17 min from Bowness. Would not hesitate to return to the Damson Dene, a big Thank You to all the hard working team.

It was a lovely break away, we thoroughly enjoyed it. The hotel had a very pleasant and relaxed atmosphere with lovely staff. The room was clean and comfortable having been recently refurbished. The fluffy white towels were lovely! There were good spa facilities and the food was good, the breakfast in particularly was outstanding. Can't wait for the opportunity to go there again and have the chance to explore more of the beautiful surroundings. The whole package was really good value for money.

Perfect break for myself and a friend to catch up. The Travelzoo deal was amazing value for money.
The location of the hotel means that you do need a car to go exploring but if you drive it's great and very peaceful. Staff are really lovely - please leave them a tip when you check out.

Room was fairly basic but spotlessly clean and functional with everything we needed. I would have liked blackout blinds as I woke very early with the sun coming in but not enough to spoil the break.
Breakfast is a buffet affair and it has something for everyone. It was good to be able to ask for poached eggs rather than fried.
Staff deserve a particular mention - they are all very friendly, cheery and helpful.
Bar prices reasonable and great choice of food in the restaurant.
I would definitely return.

We were made very welcome on arrival and were shown to a clean bright twin room with a lovely open view. We made use of the pool and spa facilities which, although not luxurious, were very adequate for a hotel of that size and location. The evening meal in the restaurant overlooking the attractively landscaped grounds and surrounding countryside, was also excellent . There was plenty of choice on the menu, the food was well cooked and presented ,very tasty, and reasonably priced. The service was friendly and attentive. The breakfast buffet the following morning was also very good, with a range of fruits and cereals, an excellent cooked food selection and delicious pastries.
All in all a very satisfactory experience.

Lovely hotel. Staff were friendly and helpful. Beautiful gardens. We had the 4 poster bedroom which was clean and the bed was very comfortable. Large clean bathroom. Even ending meal was great - good choice on the menu. Would really recommend this hotel and we are looking at when we can return!

Lovely location - the staff were fabulous.
Food was reasonable - nearer pub grub than fine dinning. Very good breakfast buffet.
Room was very small - but I expect it was a budget room.
Swimming pool was lovely with jacuzzi, sauna and steam room.

The hotel is in a lovely setting in the lyth valley, the rooms/ spa/ and some of the general areas are a bit tired, the staff were lovely. Breakfast was self serve so never very hot, but we got a great deal so it was good value.
The miniature village was very interesting

The Hotel rooms and the food and the service were absolutely the best we’ve had and would highly recommend to friends and family.

We had a very warm welcome at the hotel. The staff are a very friendly group of people. The food in the evening was excellent- better than we had expected with a great choice every evening.
Breakfast was ok - the continental choice was limited but what there was was very well done so no complaints.
Our only regret was that we did not upgrade our room. The “ cosy” double is incredibly small with a very tiny en-suite. This meant we spent more time in the lounge area than we normally would but the log fire was made sitting in the lounge very comfortable. If the weather had been better the gardens looked very inviting and we would have enjoyed spending time sitting outside with a glass of wine.
Would definitely return to the hotel but would upgrade the room to a higher standard than what was offered in the deal. I’m

Nice staff, meal was quite nice but the mushroom starter served on crumpet was just random.
We had a small and very noisy room. The friends we travelled with were allocated a huge, quieter and much more comfortable room which was great for them but left us completely deflated and underwhelmed with ours. I would only return if I was not placed in that room again as it was so noisy and hot. Overall it was quite good value. Breakfast was just ok.

Excellent value for money. Staff were welcoming and helpful. Beautiful situation. Food very good, a lovely garden to saunter in with a pond and ducks. Yes, the room and bathroom were small and bathroom a little tired but for the price of £129 per couple including a meal voucher of £30 each and a bottle of fizz in the room we would definitely visit again.

Food was excellent with plenty of choice.
Wouldn’t hesitate to return which we are planning to do later in the summer.
Hotel is in a country location 10 mins drive from Bowness surrounded by rolling hills….beautiful location with views over valley from the extensive terraces.

The rooms were not very sound-proof and the people next door were very noisy. The main restaurant could do with 'softening' to give it a bit more atmosphere, plants etc. If not sat at the window then you are in a large empty room that is obviously designed for functions so a bit cold and lacking in ambience.
