Why We Love This Hotel

  • The Falcon Hotel is a 16th-century coaching inn and overlooks Uppingham's Market Place.
  • Rutland is England's smallest county, but lives up to its motto: Multum in Parvo (much in little). Expect picturesque English villages, with independent shops, antique stores, local art galleries, and country pubs.
  • Oakham is less than 15 minutes' drive from the hotel. The great hall of Oakham Castle is one of Britain's finest examples of Norman architecture.
  • The Rutland Water Nature Reserve is 10 minutes away by car. This natural sanctuary is home to more than 25,000 waterfowl.
  • There are more than 23 miles of traffic-free cycleways that encircle Rutland Water. Travelzoo members get 50% off e-bike hire.

They ran out of gluten free bread and scones for a cream tea…. I had notified the hotel in advance of my dietary restrictions. Apart from that it was an excellent stay.

Staff are really friendly and could see they were really struggling when we checked in and agreed with our complaints. Bed was really comfy and water and biscuits in the room was a nice touch. Parking was hit and miss too on arrival as no spaces due to the lunch party of 85!!

Hotel needs a refurb, room carpet grubby, shower head mouldy, cubicle seals cracked, yellow and broken, every morning from Room 9 along the corridor, their shower woke us up, sounded like drilling and really loud, so no relaxing lie in. Drinks were extortionate and no need as the Vaults across the square owned by the same family had normal bar prices so this made us go out and not drink or eat there. Also had no pino Grigio on arrival as a huge party having lunch had bought it all yet the pub across the square had plenty! Does not help itself to be honest. Needs management to walk round and look at things. Lightbulb gone on our bedside table. Breakfast sounded lovely, choose off a menu but the full English was overcooked and tasteless and 2nd morning my eggs royale was cold and the salmOn was dark brown and slimey. My husbands avocado and eggs on toast was so small too, shocking breakfasts. Also the blinds in the bedroom are ripped and have holes in them.

A longer bath mat in the shower would be safer.
