Why We Love This Hotel

  • The hotel is "tucked away amid the trees" and has "magnificent views over the Severn Vale" (The Daily Telegraph).
  • The 1919 restaurant has three AA Rosettes for culinary excellence. "This unique hotel offers a desirable mix of laid-back elegance, incredible food, and intuitive service in a naturally dramatic space" (The AA). There's an Art Deco-style cocktail bar and terrace, too.
  • The Malvern Hills make for "magnificent walking terrain" (Countryfile). From "quiet ambles along low wooded slopes" to vigorous 8-mile hikes along the entire ridge.
  • Great Malvern is at the foot of the Malvern Hills and five minutes' drive away. Reputedly, the town's lamps inspired CS Lewis for "The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe"
  • Edward Elgar composed some of his greatest music whilst exploring the countryside around the hotel. Take the Elgar Route, a signposted 37-mile, circular driving trail. It visits many places of interest associated with the famous composer.

A lovely place set in a beautiful location. It was very peaceful if a little out of the way.

The staff were really pleasant and helpful and the food was really good.

I've already sent you an email to complain. The room we were staying in was too hot. We had to sleep in the middle of winter with all the windows open, which made us feel very unsafe and uncomfortable. Needless to say we didn't sleep very well. The water was also so hot, it was a burn hazard. I'm really not happy. The property was not suitable for guests.

Cottage is on a very steep hillside. Walking between bedroom and restaurant in icy weather wasn't much appreciated. Being with good friends helped.
Other Comments
Bedroom had plenty of room but some drawbacks - poor lighting (difficult to read); no shelving to hold jumpers & underwear was a nuisance; the en-suite shower screen was very loose resulting in a very wet floor. Public rooms are cold and draughty. The restaurant dinner we had was very nice but a little more would have been appreciated particularly as it wasn't cheap.

Our accommodation was in a separate building to the restaurant/bar and reception and as it had been snowing it was quite an inconvenience walking back to our room in the dark (although we were loaned a torch) but this may be more difficult for people with restricted mobility. The room also could be improved by additional lighting and cupboard space. However the staff were very friendly and helpful and the food in the restaurant was very good.
