Well positioned hotel, comfortable rooms though quite small and some upgrading needed regards lighting, lack of plug points etc. Very poor wi-fi signal throughout the hotel.

Very posh room and excellent staff. They were very pleasant and professional - can't fault them. The upgraded room was expensive but worth it as a treat. The food was great and made a real change from the normal food served.

Sadly affected by bad weather, so nothing to do at the hotel and little to do nearby.
Good weather is an essential component of a stay here. The food is excellent, however, though expensive. Your 'allowance' will not get much.
Other Comments
Not really any 'light meal' options and a limited menu anyway.
There are no bar snacks except 'homemade' crisps at £5.50!

If you are a foodie, meat, or fish, you will not be disappointed coming here. The breakfast has to be one of the most amazing in terms of scope of choices on offer. It's cosy, staff are passionate, rooms are clean, comfortable, plenty of walking in the grounds.

Maybe I overlooked this in booking but there are no lifts a lots and lots of narrow stairs which was really challenging for my husband. Breakfast was fabulous but the evening meal was a disappointment and considering the price even more so. We didn’t eat there the second evening. I have no problem paying more or less any price for a meal but this was not up to standard. The waiting staff were a delight

The biggest problem if that the Wild Boar markets itself as a 5 star hotel. It isn't - it's at best a decent 4 star hotel. We have stayed in a number of 5 star hotels and the Wild Boar can't touch them for luxury. The worst part was our room (room 25) which was probably the worst room in the hotel. The rom is small, the pillows are flat and the bathroom is pokey, with not enough space for a toilet roll holder. Given the hotel wasn't full, why we weren't given a nicer room for our first visit is a bit of a puzzle. The common areas also look a bit tired and need a bit of sprucing up. It's a nice hotel, and the staff are great, but when you sell yourself as a luxury, 5 star establishment, expectations go through the roof, and they fell somewhat short on our visit.

It is too far from the main attractions in Bowness and Ambleside. Also the service in the restaurant was very slow, we had to wait over an hour for our main course to arrive after we had ordered and the first choice of main course from the menu for both my wife and myself were not available.

We arrived at 12 noon so took advantage of soup and bread by the welcome open fire in the bar area. We then enjoyed an invigorating walk all around your private woodland, which was very enjoyable.

I think you could offer a couple more light lunch options. After our journey to The Wild Boar, we were looking forward to a nice crusty sandwich in the bar so a little disappointed to see that the lunch menu was more substantial than we required, given that we were dining with you later that evening. Luckily the soup was a favour we both liked but if it hadn't been, we would have had to go elsewhere (in the car). Maybe a couple of sandwich choices would go down well? That said, we enjoyed all our meals. Good quality produce.

Excellent choice for a pre Xmas break . From the initial warm welcome the service was impeccable . The staff were so polite & helpful . The accommodation comfortable & the rest of the guest areas exactly what we were looking for , original flag floors , low beamed ceilings , roaring open fires . The food in the restaurant was both plentiful , well served & absolutely delicious . Again service in the restaurant was above the standard expected due to the brilliant staff .
