This famous former smuggler's inn dates back to 1420. It was reputedly visited by Elizabeth I and has hosted the Queen Mother.

There's a 2-AA-Rosette restaurant with an "atmospheric dining room". The "delightful" (The AA) public rooms include a bar and several lounges.
As part of this offer, you'll visit Gusbourne, one of the UK's top vineyards. You'll sample four of its sparkling wines, while members of the team are on hand answer any questions. You can then take a self-guided tour of its scenic vineyards, set in the Kent countryside.
Gusbourne was awarded World Champion at the prestigious Champagne & Sparkling Wine World Champions Awards, 2022. In 2024, it won Best English Sparkling Wine.
Camber Sands, a 3-mile-long sandy beach, is a 10-minute drive from the hotel. It's one of the UK's best spots for beachcombing (Daily Express). Kitesurfing is also a popular activity.

How to Book Your Gusbourne Experience: Visit the Gusbourne website with the link provided on your voucher, select two people, choose your desired date and time, and then click Add to Basket. Next, enter your voucher code into the Redeem Gift Card or Promotional Code box, and click Apply to take the price down to zero. Gusbourne tours are available Monday–Sunday, excluding Tuesdays. Tour times are 11:30am or 2pm. Subject to availability and pre-booking on Gusbourne website. Not available 23–28 September.
Voucher codes for Gusbourne are valid until 31 October 2027, so may be redeemed after the validity period of the hotel offer if preferred.

All staff were fully committed to the customers - all efficient,, capable and friendly. We will return. Car parking could be an issue if the hotel is full with all car drivers, but there was no problem while we were there.

A lovely historical hotel with loads of atmosphere.. the stay is different from other hotels we have stayed at. The rooms re smallish but very nice. The dinner w superb, breakfast is plentiful so we’d recommend anyone to stay here for the experience.

Was able to park in the small car park, which was great, then check was so efficient. Ate in the bar on the first evening and the food, environment, and the staff were all fabulous!!

Despite being in an otherwise impossible location to find parking on the street or even close by, the Mermaid offers some parking places for residents (first come first served). Going to the Mermaid is like stepping back in time – both the building (rebuilt in 1420) and Rye itself ooze history!
Their breakfast is really good too.

The Travelzoo offer was excellent value at £199 for two nights per couple, b&b. Personally, I don't think the "normal" rate the hotel quotes at £430 for our category room IS value so do be aware of that.

Lovely welcome. A porter to take you to your room. Lovely quaint creaky floorboard room and throughout. Restaurant beautifully laid out and set for both breakfast and dinner. You feel spoilt. Plenty of staff to attend to your needs to. We didn't see any ghosties but maybe another time. Hotel is central to the town enabling easy access to other towns nearby. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and lovely Rye.

Booked a long weekend stay for my fiancé's birthday. Booking was simple, and had a lovely Sunday lunch in the restaurant before booking in. Staff were great and very helpful. Get there early to get a parking space. The room was a little hot (we opened a window) and you must expect some creaky floors and uneven floors but the food was excellent and the location is great. History and a wonderful place to stay in one location!

Early morning delivery at 5.36am should be avoided. Walls are thin and avoid room 4 as staff can be loud when preparing to start their day!

We both thoroughly enjoyed our short break (2 nights) at The Mermaid Inn and will be looking to go back. The staff, many of whom have worked there for a number of years, were all excellent throughout our stay; thank you!
Rye itself is a lovely town, with a good range of independent shops and establishments and The Mermaid Inn is a good base from which to explore it on foot. For visiting other places nearby, we found it best to do so on the way there and/or on the way home, as once we’d parked your car, we didn’t need it again until we left!

This is the 4th time we have visited this lovely cosy, steeped in history hotel.
Rooms, food and service just as good as we remembered.
Unfortunately only managed to stay 2 nights and the weather was awful.
We still managed to enjoy ourselves.
Hotel is not really suitable for those who have mobility issues as the stairs have narrow steps and steep inclines.
However with a hotel that is over 600 years old built on a steep cobbled street this has to be expected.
The staff really make the hotel a pleasure to stay at, we will definitely be going back again, hopefully in the not to distant future.

This was my fifth stay at the Mermaid, three times solo and twice with my wife. As always the staff were fabulous, always chatty and cheerful as well as very efficient and helpful. The 600 year old building has bags of atmosphere, a fabulous bar with huge open fireplace plus two other lounges, and is in the heart of the town. It has its own car park including 4 electric charging points. The food is excellent, especially breakfast. I'll be back again in a few months - looking forward to it already.

From start (check in) to finish (check out) and beyond (I left an important notebook in my room which the Receptionist very helpfully agreed to send me).
ALL staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful throughout our stay. The Hotel itself is beautiful and quaint and historical and full of atmosphere!! Our room was gorgeous! I can honestly say it is one of the best Hotels I have stayed in for ambience and fabulous staff which goes a long way into making a memorable stay.
I will definitely return soon and take friends to soak up the atmosphere!!
