Why We Love This Deal

Parts of The Olde Bell date back to the 1130s when it welcomed visitors to the nearby Benedictine Priory. A sanctus bell, that signalled to the monks that an important visitor had arrived, still hangs over the door. Overnight stays are £85 for Travelzoo members, saving 47–48% on the direct price.

Why We Love This Hotel

  • The Olde Bell first opened its doors in 1135. This makes it possibly the oldest inn in England, and among the oldest in the world. Over the years it has hosted Winston Churchill, Dwight D Eisenhower, Elizabeth Taylor, and Cary Grant.
  • The restaurant serves dishes made with produce grown in the inn's own kitchen garden.
  • Superior rooms are in the historic inn building or in the Malt House. Deluxe rooms are larger and are set within the Brick Barn. Luxury rooms are in the Main Inn or Malt House and each have a claw-foot bath tub.
  • The property is in the picturesque village of Hurley, close to the River Thames. "There isn't a prettier village on this graceful stretch of the Thames," says The Times.
  • Marlow is a charming town known for high-end restaurants and celebrity residents. It is an hour's walk away, most of it along the river.

Really lovely experience, we were given the bridal suite in check in and the room/suite was very impressive, massive bedroom with a bath in, seprrate sitting area and a huge bathroom with great shower, we booked evening meal in the restaurant and the food was delicious and very reasonably priced , especially with the extra 20% off with Travelzoo booking, breakfast was included and was buffet style plus juices, pastries and fruit all included. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend this especially if booking luxury room

Very friendly hard working staff. Rooms clean and comfortable

We thought general standard of the decor and food was not 4 star, though. But it was good value for money.

Staff were very welcoming, however had difficulty in locating our same day booking from Travelzoo. Once located , they automatically upgraded us, without request to a bigger room. We found that the TV reception was very poor to that point it could not be watched and with no internet access we could not access the likes of Netflix etc. We reported this at breakfast the next morning and we were assured someone would take a look at it. That evening the situation remained the same, but there was a different remote control. Obviously, someone had made a visit, but were unable to resolve the issue but no-one left us a message to say it could not be sorted. On checking out the next day, they did apologise but no recompense was given for the inconvenience.

We enjoyed the way it was decorated, their choice of artwork and the fact that it had a free carpark.

The Olde Bell is a beautiful, historic inn. The room we were in, which was a deluxe room, was of a generous size with a very comfortable bed & lovely shower, the decor was a little tired & the carpet had several stains on it, but generally the room was clean, one gripe, we had 3 coathangers which seemed a bit tight considering the cost of coathangers. In the evening we ate in the bar twice, the food wasn't a la carte, but it was very good & we've no complaints, the breakfast was plentiful with a wide selection. One thing that was excellent was the service, all the staff we met were friendly, extremely helpful & made you feel that nothing was too much trouble, if we could select one member of staff who excelled it would be Dominic who doted on our dog as well as went above & beyond for us. All in all we had a lovely break in a beautiful area at a very reasonable price.

A quaint hotel that had lots of character. It is looking a little tired. Our tv reception was very poor and despite efforts to correct it, we could not use it. Out shower handle was also very stiff but the staff responded promptly when I rang for help.
Other Comments
The staff were very efficient and helpful, nothing was too much trouble. There was a wedding on during our stay and the music from the barn across the road went on for some time into the night. Despite being pretty full, the service at breakfast was excellent as was the choice of food.
