- The property is on the Tarka Trail and sits on the River Taw. Amidst Forestry Commission land, you're surrounded by miles of off-road wooded walks to enjoy. Here are some nearby dog-friendly walks.
- Hop aboard the scenic Tarka Line railway, which runs from Exeter to Barnstaple. Take in picturesque views through the Yeo and Taw Valleys. Access the route at Eggesford station, which is five minutes' walk from the hotel.
- Sample British and international dishes at the casual Heywood Restaurant. It's open daily from 8am–11pm for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

Hotel in a beautiful location. Although there is a beautiful section of river in which to walk the dog, you had to get in the car to access longer walks which was a shame. highlights were the friendly helpful staff and dinner was really delicious, highly recommend. We felt the rooms were basic and tired but comfortable. We, and the dog, enjoyed our stay with special shout out to staff and the chef!

It was a good deal but a cosy room meant you could not open the bedroom door without knocking the bed. Staff were very helpful but Hotel is in need of refurbishment.
Not much choice at breakfast for GF except cooked breakfast, no fruit or GF cereal or bread.
Grounds are lovely.

I visited with two dogs and the Fox and Hounds is VERY dog friendly. The rooms are clean and comfortable and the staff cannot do enough for you!

This is my first time travelling solo, as I'm a widow. Also with two dogs I was a little nervous but the Fox and Hounds made me feel so relaxed and welcome.
I recommend them fully, especially to any solo dog owners!

Mum and I really enjoyed our stay here, the staff are so kind and nothing was too much trouble. Thanks again boys for all your help.
Our dinner the first night was delicious, loved the wood burner for a relaxing drink by.
Breakfast was fine and we enjoyed the afternoon tea.
Our room- we paid an upgrade of £20 per night faced the garden and was very comfortable. Beautifully decorated and very quiet.
The river walk was very relaxing, probably not long enough for us but there's plenty of walks a short drive away.

The location was brilliant if a bit challenging to get to. The food at the hotel is top notch, but selection is limited. It is very close to the train station for access to Exeter. We didn't know and that would have been good to know. Overall, the only negative points about the stay was the beds - the mattresses and pillows are in dire need of replacement. Overall 6.5/10 - replacing the mattresses and pillows would make it an 8/10 and just a few more food options would be great and make it 8.5/10.

We were blown away by the excellent quality and quantity of the afternoon tea; which came with our TravelZoo deal.
Our room was fabulous complete with a 4 poster double bed, but our relatives who were in the 'Cosy' rooms did find them to be just that!!
We would certainly intend to return in future....
