Thatchers Hotel is a charming Tudor-style property in the heart of the Surrey countryside. Its 91 guest rooms, function rooms, bar, and restaurant have been fully refurbished in the last year. Expect warm-wood panelling, pops of colour, and bespoke lighting.
The hotel restaurant serves breakfast, brunch, lunch, afternoon tea, and dinner. The open-plan bar looks out onto the lush gardens.
East Horsley is a quaint country village with tree-lined streets. Horsley station is just over one mile from the hotel. From here, it's a 50-minute train into London.
Explore the neighbouring Surrey Hills National Landscape. Box Hill, for an abundance of hiking trails and sweeping views, is 15 minutes' drive away.
Polesden Lacey is a National Trust-owned country house, 10 minutes' drive from the hotel. It's set in a 1600-acre estate with elegant gardens.

We used Thatchers as our base for a visit to Wimbledon tennis: it proved ideal, and we would certainly use it again. Spacious rooms, big comfortable beds, charming staff, no complaints.

The staff were very helpful with my specific requests - as I was attending the opera at the nearby Grange Park Opera, I needed to take a picnic each day and they were happy to refreeze my iceblocks every night. I also had a lovely quiet room and was able to sleep really well.

One comment I have is that it would be much better to have cut up fruit salad on the breakfast buffet table; as a wholefood vegetarian, fresh fruit is the main part of my breakfast normally and as I cannot eat eggs or sliced processed bread, whole grain "real" bread is a priority. I noticed that the brunch menu includes avocado but it would be nice if this was available for the vegetarians at the normal breakfast, especially as the fresh fruit was limited to whole apples, oranges and pears.
An alternative (or extra) would be to provide fruit compote as so many other hotels do this - no real extra work for the kitchen crew as it can be bought frozen and simply defrosted.
I had to go and buy some blueberries for my own breakfast.

The decor was great, room large and comfy. The bar lounge was a nice place to sit.

The staff were a bit apathetic. Example, no one on reception when we arrived. Rang the bell and still had to wait. Just had a general feel of couldn’t be bothered.
The breakfast was freezing cold, we did mention it. They had aircon blowing on the hot trays. We couldn’t be bothered to wait for the time they said the food would be reheated. We just had toast in the end

The hotel is presented very nicely & housekeeping do a good job with the cleanliness of the rooms. The rooms are spacious as are the communal areas which, have comfortable seating. The evening meal was exceptionally good (payable in addition) unfortunately breakfast was not to the same standard. Breakfast needs more attention to detail & probably another member of staff to keep on top of replenishing items & clearing tables. That said our stay was very enjoyable.

Albeit a minor detail, I was surprised & disappointed that this hotel did not provide any herbal infusion ‘teas’ & I was glad that I’d take a few with me.

The accommodation was okey. When we checked in, we were asked to book a table at their restaurant, so we did. We ordered tapas type meal, 6 small dishes, but it took ages for the food to come and there were some parts of meal missing,e.g. bread and sauce. Also one of hot dishes was cold. We complained the staff a couple times and he said there was a shortage of staff due to sick leave. At the end, they didn't charge our food. However we prefer to paying what we like to eat with services we expect rather than receiving free meal with unpleasant experiences. We felt that overall the hotel is understaffed.

Rooms were well appointed, large and had been renovated recently. Shower/bathroom was very good. Bed very comfortable. Room was very quiet overnight. Heating was there if you needed it. Pleasant background music in the lounge/bar. Adequate free parking once you'd registered your vehicle.
Not too busy and quiet in the bar area. We'd stay there again if the offer was repeated in 2027

Everything worked really well, except that the Wifi was unreliable. Rooms were nice, reception staff were very friendly. Meals were good (except that the breakfast eggs were more cooked that we would have liked) and the staff seemed a little busy at times (and therefore the service suffered a bit).

Our family room didn't have even 1 comfortable chair. Just an empty corner needing 2 chairs and a small table. Torn sheet on the bed, a chipped bath and dirty floor in the bathroom showed lack of detail. Otherwise the hotel was good.

Stayed in room 101, a newly refurbished comfy double.
The room was smallish but beautifully decorated. Could really have benefitted from a light in the wardrobe or at least in the corner of the room as it was very dark when trying to choose clothes. It was also very warm overnight. 9th/10th October.
Bathroom was at first glance beautiful. On closer inspection there was a very dusty extraction fan and more dust on the floor behind the door.
There was also a complete lack of WiFi in that part of the hotel. Quite annoying.
The reception area along with the bar and restaurant were beautiful. The staff very professional and helpful.
We had breakfast included and couldn't really fault it (except for the kitchen running out of brown bread. Although thete was plenty available on the buffet. Why not just take some through to the kitchen??)
We also had an evening meal there and my request for different fries was messed up and not put right until I had almost finished my meal.
Overall worth every penny of the price paid. £139 for 2 nights B+B for 2 people.

Nice hotel. Had one of the refurbished rooms. But they had used the wrong paint in the bathroom and the ceiling paint was pealing off. A very BIG NEGATIVE no wifi in the bedroom!
