Lovely hotel in the centre of ludlow. Small carpark. We stayed in room 122 first floor. There is a lift but still a few narrow corridors and a few steps to get to room. We didn’t mind this but if you have mobility issues might be a problem. Room was nice , looked like it had been refurbished in last couple of years. Quite warm in hotel including in the night. Food in restaurant was nice. Waiting on staff & bar staff friendly.

The food in restaurant was some of the worst ive had in a long time. Main was so cold as if just come out of fridge, we sent it back to be microwaved. Sweet was worse. freezing cold bread and butter pudding covered in luke warm custard. sent it bad. Waitress was nice and she was also shocked at how bad it was. Breakfast was rubbish. The granola was dust in a jar. No musseli and the cooked breakfast looked like it was as cheap as they could make it. Everything was low grade food. So we settled for shredded wheat. Not what you expect on a nice weekend away. We have a better breakfast at home.
Rood was very noisy due to the creaky floorboards above. Ok, i can accept this in a 500 year old building. There was an extractor fan runing for hours in another bedroom which became an ear worm and kept us awake until about 4 am when it stopped.
The seats in the restaurant are worn out. Very dirty to the point of sticky. Probably the worst chairs I've ever sat in in a hospitality setting.
We booked and paid for 2 nights, but left after first night, thus this was a very expensive one night away.

Although did have two pillows they were firm and I personally like soft fluffy pillows.
We were lucky to arrive just before the old menu was taken down n we had very nice food. The new restaurant menu had nothing of interest n just like a basic pub menu. I wouldn’t repeat my visit unless the menu changed back to more refined dining.

We have been coming for a number of years but on the last 2 occasions have noticed a reduction in staff but of course realise why. Whilst the quality of food remains excellent we did however have an hour's wait for our meal to be served. Also - it would be preferable that rooms accommodating dogs were kept purely for that as we had to change rooms due to a large amount of dog hairs on the carpet.

We appreciate the hotel is very old, but as the weather was very cold, the public rooms could have been warmer. Both outside doors open directly into the public areas which and were very draughty.
The towel rail/ radiator in our bathroom did not work, and room 244 was cold. The heater above on the wall struggled to get to temperature.
This was our second visit to the hotel, but the first time we found the very old and impressive Tudor rooms. There is a magnificent Great Hall but we felt nothing was done to promote or show this off. Comfortable furnishings and heating in James 1 and Edward IV would make these rooms so impressive and more welcoming to hotel guests as another lounge area.
Overall a good old hotel which we would recommend.

We were put in a room on the first floor facing the busy road and with the windows opposite looking straight into ours. I requested another room and we were given a smaller room - supposedly overlooking the Carpark - but it looked onto a flat roof with the noisy kitchen fans running.
Also we ordered a bottle of white wine (£32) and when they opened and served it it was very warm! I queried this and was told they didn’t have any in the fridge so it was brought up straight from the cellar. Had I known this I would’ve ordered another chilled one. We were given an ice bucket but had to wait 15 minutes for it to be acceptably chilled.

This is a unique experience because of the age of the building, whilst it's over 400 yrs old it has had a recent refurbishment so you get the best of both worlds an historic building with a modern feel and interior.
Staff were always helpful and friendly and our room was comfortable and clean.
We had a tasty meal in the restaurant with a variety of options to choose from.
Breakfast was plentiful and with plenty of choice.
The hotel is in the centre of town so it's perfect for exploring but because of its town location there is nightly parking charge of £7.50 and the car park at the rear of the hotel is quite small so get there early to be able to find a space.
We had a terrific time at this hotel and would definitely recommend it.

Staff lovely and polite, well mannered but unsupervised so dinner took two hours with me having to find a manager to ask a member of the waiting staff to take both the dessert and coffee orders - coffee never came as we gave up. The food was excellent, so it was a shame that the organisation amongst waiting staff was lacking. The poor gent on the bar when we arrived was new, and also unsupervised, so had no clue about how to pour an Aperol - something we only chose because he said they had no citrus gin (there were three varieties when we looked later)
When I commented on having to wait for 35 minutes for my drink, a manager did offer us a free drink later, so they are aware of the problems,

The evening meal for which we had a £30 voucher was a huge disappointment. Worse still, my husband had what he believes was some sort of poisoning from undercooked potato chips. He was poorly that night and two days on, he is still not right. We have not reported this to the hotel as we cant be 100% sure.
The meal was over 1 hour 15 minutes arriving. My husbands steak was totally plain, with a few undercooked chips and a few tomatoes. This was nearly £30! My duck was tough and only warm not hot. The veg had been standing a while. The waiting staff were very apologetic and said there were problems in the kitchen.
We reported the very poor standard of meal to the manager the next day.

Staff were very friendly and helpful, but we did have some problems with the room not being cleaned and items not replenished when used.
The food was nice, however we had to wait along time at breakfast to be served, and again on one of the evenings.

When we reported the problem with our bedroom on 2 occasions, it was put right quickly.
The restaurant was training new staff, so there didn't seem to be any organisation to attend to customers in sequence of arrival. We had to wait 30mins for our starters one evening, these were from the cold option. Milk wasn't brought when we had our tea with breakfast. All this will hopefully soon be resolved once staff fully trained and proper organisation within the restaurant is sorted.
Saying that, we had a lovely stay, and when we checked out as a apology for the errors with our room, they didn't charge us for the extras incurred during our visit.
This was a lovely gesture. Thank you.

Food lovely but could do with more staff, especially at breakfast. Poor girl rushed off her feet. Hope those with disabilities get a room near the lift as lots of steps and long corridors to our room. Didn't bother us but we are fit. Enjoyed the ambience of this Grade 1 building.

2 things. It was far too hot in the hotel. Both in public areas and bedrooms. Lots of people saying same thing. Why so hot?????
Also we’re vegans and disappointed with breakfast. Instead of a vegan alternative they simply took eggs, bacon and black pudding OFF the plates leaving us with 4 items instead of every one else’s 7 items! Not very good!

Rooms although small are comfortable and well furnished. We stayed in room 106 and the room above had very creaky floorboards and we could hear them talking. But it’s a very old hotel so to be expected I guess. Food was good although portions not big so easily managed 3 courses. Great location, there’s a charge for the car park which is extremely tight to manoeuvre but you can then walk into town

A lovely hotel, a short walk from the town centre. We had a lovely room, unfortunately a lot of steps to get there, but it is a very old building. Next time I will ask for a room closer to reception. Because we had our small dog with us on this occasion we had to eat in the bar area, which is fine - and understandable, only I think that you get forgotten about... well we were. A very long wait for dinner, and we had to ask twice where our breakfast was ! The food wasn't as good as last time, but maybe that was because of the long wait. A fault with our bill was sorted quickly and efficiently. We would return, but with some reservations.

There were problems with the restaurant both for dinner and breakfast - there had been a Christmas function in another part of the hotel and this seemed to take preference over the hotels actual guests. Several guests waited in excess of half an hour for restaurant service on the evening and for breakfast guests were asked to specify precise times for their breakfast - not particularly what you want when on a break. Staff seemed very stretched - have noticed a decline in service over the past several years we have been going to the hotel. This will be our last stay.

The outside appearance and the location.
Other Comments
Hotel decor was old fashioned and was like something from the 70's, shabby, drab colours and very uninspiring (despite the hotel being refurbished not too long ago). Not at all inkeeping with the outside of the hotel. I expected rich red curtains and carpets, leather chairs and chintzy cushions. There were no comfy chairs - all hard bucket chairs. Chipped paintwork in the bedroom and hall ways, cheap bedroom curtains and tatty bed throws. The hotel lounge and dining room was very very cold throughout my stay. The log fire kept going out and staff didn't bother to do anything about it - I had to keep asking.......and even then they weren't able to make a decent fire and it went out. Christmas decorations were very poor indeed, no Christmas atmosphere or twinkling lights. Staff were ok but weren't overly friendly or made you feel particularly welcome. They were clearly there to "do a job" and get paid. Food was average at best. The overall visit was very disappointing and quite frankly embarrassing as I'd taken my elderly mother there as a Christmas present. I certainly won't ever consider returning or recommending this hotel. They need to take a look at the Lygon Arms and Broadway Hotel in Broadway.......that's how the interior should decorated in an old property.

We have stayed here previously & love the central location.
We upgraded to a deluxe super king room ,(212) which was lovely. Right at the front of the hotel with 2 big bay windows. The bathroom was very clean & warm, unfortunately the same couldn’t be said for the room. When we returned from dinner the room was quite chilly but as we were going to bed it wasn’t so bad. However, it was cool again in the morning, the radiators were cold. I did mention this when we checked out & it was noted.
Dinner was very nice, but service was slow. Good choice of breakfast, I had smoked salmon &scrambled egg, which was lovely, my husband ordered full English breakfast. Again the service was slow, when it came it was all
overcooked, but as we’d waited so long he ate what he could.
Despite these issues we would return to the Feathers as the good points outweighed the bad.

The staff were friendly and helpful, especially the housekeeping personnel. And our complaints about the food were dealt with positively and politely by the management.
Obviously, staying in such an historic place has its own charm and we liked the overall atmosphere.
Other Comments
The room was very cramped - yes, we were on a deal break but didn’t realise the ‘cosy’ room would be quite so small. Also, the bathroom extractor fan was very loud and noisy.
The evening meal was ok but not value for money - £24 for a very small piece of fish was not impressive. And the so-called chocolate mousse for dessert was rock solid and not an enjoyable experience.
This was followed by breakfast the following morning where my wife’s boiled egg arrived completely solid. Having decided to go for a poached egg instead we waited for about 10 minutes before finding out that the order had been forgotten.
Friends of ours have stayed before and found the food and service excellent - we feel we were unfortunate that the kitchen didn’t deliver its normal standard for some reason.
