Nice clean large hotel . Maybe a couple of miles out of Skipton , so either fit walkers for the stroll into town along the canal , or one of the ( plentiful } taxis from town ( about £ 7 each way ) .Unfortunately the restaurant and bar food was - I'll be generous here , not very good . Not so bad that you would complain , but certainly not good enough to make you want to repeat the experience . Pity really , because everything else was good , including the breakfast oddly enough .

Really enjoyed our stay. All staff we encountered were happy to help, pleasant and courteous . The hotel is rather dated and the room we had although spotlessly clean and comfortable would benefit from a refurb, especially the bathroom. On the plus side the shower was adequate and the full sized bath and lots of hot water were a bonus!
We booked via the travelzoo package and for what we paid feel it was extremely good value, both the evening meal and breakfast were very good .

We had a canal side room and loved watching the boats from our room. Food at evening meal and breakfast we're amazing. Bottles of wine were a little expensive but most hotels are and we enjoyed it. Views of the canal was an added bonus as nice to watch the canal boats whilst sitting relaxing. Our experience at the Skipton Hotel was a positive one. From the lovely calm (in spite of a queue of guests) and welcoming receptionist, through all the staff who engaged with us during our visit. Special mention must go to the chef and all the restaurant team on the Saturday evening, who, in spite of the large party in the Malham Suite, delivered excellent dishes and service for my husbands 70th birthday dinner, in the very nicely renovated Canalside restaurant. We were fortunate to be allocated a canalside view room, which was an added bonus.

Only criticism is that our room was a little dated and tired-looking. Although I hasten to say that it was nice and clean. I understand that the bedrooms are being renovated at the moment, so I hope that if/when we return, we will notice improvements.

The hotel was extremely dated and very much in need of modernisation throughout, including the pool areas. One of the lifts was out of order during our stay and we had no water in our room at one point, along with other rooms who were reporting the same issue, although this was rectified the same day. Our room was in the roof at the front of the hotel with a velux window, but the noise from the busy road at the front was very load when the window was open and could still be heard when it was closed.

This was our first visit to The Skipton Hotel. From the initial meeting with reception staff and throughout our dealings with all the staff,we were most impressed with their friendly and helpful dispositions despite being exceptionally busy and having to work in very warm conditions. The accommodation allocated was clean and tidy offering lovely views over the canal witch generated such a wealth of interest from all the boat traffic and the people crewing such a wide variety of activity and interest.
We stayed for two days having all our meals in house. The menus were varied and the quality of food good.In particular, I would like to congratulate the chef on the Caesar Salad that was prepared for me.
Our stay coincided with the England/Norway match.I was so impressed with all the staff who coped so well with the significant increases and demands of residents necessitating staff multitasking.
Overall,an enjoyable stay and will be arranging a return visit.

Prior to our arrival, we checked that our room/shower was suitable for my partially disabled wife. Reception were only too pleased to be of assistance and our room was perfect for our needs.

One meal in the restaurant was a great disappointment! My steak was a very poor piece of meat with a lot of gristley strands and connective tissue. As I was paying I expressed my dissatisfaction and £5 was deducted. A full refund would have been more appropriate but my wife does not like creating a scene. My entire night was tainted by this episode.
The first night that we stayed in The Skipton Hotel, we found the duvets to be too thick and heavy for our liking. A quick word with a member of housekeeping had the problem sorted very quickly.

We had an incident acquiring our inclusive Settle to Carlisle rail tickets as they hadn’t been delivered by the station to the hotel in the usual way. good parking. nice view from back of hotel over canal. busy road and industrial units to the front. Walk along canal into town about 25 mins and pleasant in day and good weather. Ladies on front desk very friendly and helpful, Sharon was a star (saw her most) . bar area and restaurant newly refurbished and attractive. Rooms a bit tired. we had very spacious room on front of hotel. could have been cleaner but ok. no extras. corporate. provided decent base for our few days in skipton area. we ate in restaurant one night. staff great. food disappointing. My husbands chicken was tough and too salty. The meal I chose was unavailable. I am vegetarian and have certain dietary requirements that meant nothing else was suitable. I had chosen to eat here for the meal that was unavailable. So for me very disappointing. I ended up with mainly a side of veg and picking at a meal not best suited to me. Didnt use pool etc.
we had nice break and did not complain while there as not bad enough for that but would choose somewhere else next time we were in the area.

The food was really quite bad, both dinner and breakfast. We were amazed that such a place could get the food so wrong, it was very much like they didn't care what people thought. The servers were brilliant, very apologetic and agreed with us that the food wasn't nearly good enough. They knocked the cost of the starters off our bill but that was pointless as we had bought a deal that more or less covered the cost of food, so really we were left out of pocket. The bar prices were horrendous too, over £18 for a large glass of wine and pint of ale!

Decor could do with an upgrade, toilet seat wouldn’t stay up (had to hold with my knee), tele really hard to operate…had to try really hard pressing buttons & quite a few ‘usual’ favourite free view channels like Quest etc missing..
Shower was ‘tight’. I’m 6ft & 13 stone so not over weight but it was a bit awkward. Also no shelf in there which was very inconvenient.
Worst thing for us was when we went to dinner (which was included in the deal-£30 each), on top of the meal, as extras we had a pint of black sheep beer,a small lemonade & a portion of chips.
For that (after the £60 was allowed for..) we had to pay £25.69.
We couldn’t figure out how a beer, lemonade & chips came to that amount.
Upon looking at the bill we realised we had been charged £7.79 service charge for the whole bill, including the £60 that was included in the deal.
We actually had £5 ready to give as a tip, but withdrew that.
People in restaurants work hard, but we should be able to decide if a tip/service charge is given. Not the hotel.
Had this before, & we’re getting really sick of it.
We didn’t say anything as didn’t want to ruin our holiday & wouldn’t have said anything if you hadn’t asked.
Would like to reiterate that the staff were were helpful.

Enjoyed our stay again, paid a little extra to the Skipton hotel to have a canal side room. Reception staff are very friendly & helpful. The rooms are rather dated but suits us as we like having the bath & shower facility. I believe the rooms are gradually being refurbished. We thought prices of the meal & drinks on the 1st night (even with the offer of 30% off food) were a lot more expensive than previous stays, also drinks from the bar were dearer than in Skipton.

We had a complimentary bottle of Prosecco and then a friend with us bought another bottle. It was £42. This wasn’t the one listed , it was the same as the complimentary one which would have been a cheaper one.we looked at it was £10 interior! A glass of wine was £12.50.the room was tired and the headboard all patchy. No one came to our room to see if we wanted anything until 4pm by thus time we had washed out the used tea cups ourselves. The price was good but very disappointing all in all.

The service for the evening meal. We booked our table for 7.45 pm. The waitress took our order. We ordered soup and garlic mushrooms. My wife ordered fish and chips as a main course; I asked for steak and ale pie but was told that they had run out of it, so I asked for tarragon chicken. My wife’s soup was cold (we sent it back), but the replacement soup was tolerably warm. My mushrooms were fine. We then waited and waited for our mains but it was obvious they had forgotten about them.
We complained and finally got them about 9pm. My chicken was like shoe leather so I sent it back and ordered fish and chips instead. The chips tasted bitter, so I ate what I could of the fish. We “ passed “ on the sweet - we were fed up. We were never offered anything in compensation for what was a bad end to a wedding anniversary night away. We certainly wouldn’t recommend this hotel to anyone.

However our deal for one night with travel zoo was excellent in terms of value for money.

This is clearly a very popular hotel for group.events.
Very difficult to complain as we had such an excellent deal but individuals staying have to fit in re available meal times. Breakfast was hectic. Sheer volume of people in the dining meant staff were rushing round doing their best.....constantly refilling buffet food/ drinks. Big delay on serving coffee/ tea & toast. It is a very big hotel with lounge bar being a particularly pleasant space

The welcome was good, the room was large and comfortable although looking a little tired. It had a large shower, although I always like a bath, but it was an offer so cannot expect the best rooms. The rooms at the front can be a little noisy with traffic and guests chatting on the bar balcony below. I liked the fact the room had a portable radiator and fan!

The restaurant, there were always 3 people serving but they had to book people in, take money from those leaving who needed to pay, take orders, serve food and clear tables. They all worked hard but customer service was poor. I looked at the online menu before I went down and chose a starter, main and dessert, only to find the menu had changed. My second choice of main, vegetarian burger had gone, despite beef and chicken ones being available. The main I had was good but the soup was poor. I did not stay for dessert. The couple on the next table said, very wise, we have been waiting 10 mins for the dessert menu. Breakfast had lots of choice, but I ordered a veggie sausage and my husband a poached egg, both arrived on the same plate; as the waitress was also dealing with 2 other tables I got myself a plate. There was a wide range of choices and while these were ok, they weren't marvellous e.g poached egg over cooked and cold toast. Despite me telling two members of staff about the menu online, it has still not been changed! One member of staff enquired what had I wanted, when I told her she said, we haven't had that menu for weeks!

Excellent location on the canal. Right by the 66 bus stop which was handy for exploring the area. Food OK, but I was disappointed that we were charged for coffee, despite only having eaten £48 worth of our £60 food allowance. The hotel was nowhere near 50% occupancy, and it would have been nice to have been offered a quiet room overlooking the canal, rather than the busy road.
