£49—'Outstanding' 3-course lunch for 2 in South Wales

Absolutely fabulous with wonderful attention to detail. Food really memorable, good quality and beautifully presented. The whole experience was well worth the journey.

We had the most wonderful time here. Simon is a superb chef, the best food we have tasted it was all so delicious. Kate and Simon are wonderful hosts and we were made so welcome and it was a lovely treat. We can’t wait to go back!

With the added cost, our bargain meal was more than double the original token. Maybe our fault nut we enjoyed it.

Fabulous food, wonderful service. Atmosphere suffered as we were the only ones in that lunchtime, but not a big issue. One point we missed, or was not made clear in the original offer, was that some dishes on the menu carried a supplement. That was perfectly fair for the dishes that would usually be pricier, but it would be fair to know that ahead of time. As I said, I may have missed that in the T&Cs.

Simon King is a fine chef but portions are small.

The £25 per person a la carte turned out to be a special menu with £19 per person value. Also, most options on the ‘exclusive’ Travelzoo menus incurred supplements of around £8 to £10 on a main course. Our two course meal with a glass of wine each and coffee cost £90. The owner said they only receive £19 from yourselves and we would be better off dealing directly with you! Offer is, therefore, poor value and leaves a bad taste. Please excuse the pun.

Although we bought the voucher believing that paid for the 2 course meal, we were disappointed that there were supplements on most of the courses. Made it an expensive meal.

The service was AMAZING. The food was DELICIOUS. The area was BEAUTIFUL & RELAXING.

All courses served very rapidly. Bread was extra unlike before, and the extra course we had before was missing .

Simon, chef & wife Kate, front of house, are both charming, friendly and welcoming. We were booked to stay for the night as well but, you can’t check in til 5 pm. Checked what time our dinner reservation was and told 6.45 pm! Way too early for us and all a bit of a rush not giving you any time to relax/unwind. We had brought a bottle of champagne with us for my husband’s birthday, to enjoy before dinner, and Simon was very gracious and arranged an ice bucket & glasses for us but, due to early dinner, this was guzzled! Can’t fault the room - beautiful and spacious with quality fixtures/fittings on the 1st floor. Accommodation has a residents lounge and kitchen where continental breakfast is available but, you have to be out of your room by 9.30!! Lovely food selection at breakfast but, again, zero atmosphere as we were the only ones there as the other couple who stayed the night had already left. Your welcome to stay in the kitchen/lounge area til around 11 though which suited us as we’re going to White Castle Vineyard for 11.30 and that’s just down the road. The food was excellent, can’t fault that at all and there is an extensive wine list too but, couldn’t really understand why we had to dine so early as there were only 3 other couples dining the same evening as us! The restaurant is pleasant enough but has zero atmosphere. Overall, we felt the whole experience was rather ‘rushed’ and, having spent around £350 for one night, didn’t feel good value for money.
