Live out your period drama fantasies at this star of the screen. Castle Howard has featured in the 1981 and 2008 adaptations of "Brideshead Revisted", "Victoria" (2016), and more. More recently, it featured as the Duke of Hastings' country home in "Bridgerton".
The grounds feature extensive woodlands, temples, lakes, and waterways. There's also a walled garden to explore, with manicured borders, an ornamental vegetable patch, and summer flowers.
The house dates back to 1699 and took 100 years to complete. Step in and discover its dramatic Baroque architecture, richly layered interiors, and world-class art collections.
After years of "exquisite renovations" (Tatler), Castle Howard's 21st Century Renaissance was revealed in April last year. This won five major national awards, including the Historic Houses Restoration Award.

Beautiful Castle and grounds,we only did the grounds though and unfortunately the weather wasn't brilliant, however it's a really nice place if you like the autumn colours.

Beautiful grounds where you ca easily spend a whole day. The historical house was interesting with entrance hall truly inspiring. There was a guide in each room who was able to give in depth information if you wished. The house is under constant renovation and we were lucky to have seen rooms that have recently completed excellent refurbishments.

Please note that the house closes at 3pm and you have to leave the whole grounds by 5pm in Summer.

Castle Howard was charming, it was a pleasure to look around and the guides posted around the rooms were so informative and a pleasure to talk to. The castle is lived in by the Howard family which gives the place a special feel without missing out on the grandeur of the surroundings. We are going to visit again to concentrate on the gardens which are beautiful. We had a lovely day there.

The house was very interesting and enjoyable.
Only explored a small amount of the gardens as it was very hot.

Having been to Castle Howard quite a few times in the past we had not been since they opted out of Historic Houses. However it was good to see all the improvements being made in the house and the information provided for each room. The gardens were beautiful and the grounds perfect for a good walk.

A stunning setting. The house was gorgeous and very accessible. You could use the audio guides which were very informative about each room in the house but if you didn’t want to then each room was manned by a someone whose knowledge was vast and enthusiastic. Lots to see in the grounds from the walled garden to the boat house. All kept immaculately. Well worth a visit. Will be going again, hopefully at Christmas.
