The historic Mottisfont house, art gallery, and estate is 10 minutes' drive away. Once socialite and art patron Maud Russell's home, it is now a National Trust property.
How to Book: Purchase a voucher from Travelzoo then call the hotel on 01794 377500 or email hello@thedukeonthetest.co.uk to make a reservation for your desired travel dates. Guests can combine multiple vouchers for longer stays, subject to restrictions. Reservations are subject to availability and early booking is encouraged. The restaurant is open 12–4:30pm on Sunday; check hotel website for opening times.

Had a lovely stay at this friendly hotel. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The food was good with a good choice. The room was spacious and very comfortable bed. The only down side was the soundproofing in the rooms was not good. The manageress was really helpful too.

Very happy with the attention we received and the courtesy of the staff. Excellent veggie breakfast and the quality of the meals. The only criticism was we had only one bath towel in the room and no bath mat. Otherwise the room was large as was the bed.

What a wonderful short break! Everything about The Duke on the Test was just perfect. All of the staff were so welcoming and friendly and their warmth permeated through the whole atmosphere in the pub.
The room was excellent, it was warm and comfortable and provided everything that we needed .... a very comfortable bed, a good en suite bathroom and everything spotlessly clean.
There was a good choice of food in the restaurant, all well cooked and beautifully presented.
Plenty of parking and just a short walk from a footpath along the River Test to Romsey. Wellingtons provided too if needed!

Our room was tastefully decorated and furnished with french doors leading to a private patio. Modern shower/bathroom spotlessly clean. The bar/restaurant was comfortable and, again superbly furnished. Staff were efficient and very friendly. Good choices on dinner and breakfast menu. Lovely locations by the river, and in easy reach of National Trust properties and Hillier Gardens. We would definitely return.

Had to wait 50 mins for food to arrive at dinner. Dessert was inedible. Bill didn't include meal allowance. 2nd night disturbed by 2 false fire alarms at 1:30 and 4:30, no staff available to inform on situation and neither explanation . T

We thoroughly enjoyed our two day stay. The hotel was well situated. Our room was very comfortable and clean and being on the ground floor made access very easy. Parking was very good. All staff very friendly and welcoming. Room comfortable but housekeeping needs to be improved. Had to ask for milk and tea bags making a trip to reception. Main issue is the dining room temperature depending on where your table is. Generally the new part is unacceptably cold and the original part only just acceptable. Whilst we would visit again we would not book during winter months. Also when busy the restaurant was understaffed with long wait times in the evening.

We had a wonderful 2 night stay. The rooms are lovely with a super king bed and very clean. We appreciated the allocated parking space. The Staff were all very friendly and welcoming. The food in the restaurant was of a very high standard and the Staff were very aware for the need to check on any special dietary requirements. There were great choices for gluten free. The breakfast also had a range of options.

The hotel appears newly refurbished it is stylishly done and of a beautiful quality .
The staff are amazing and the food superb. The ambience was a lovely chilled vibe with the log fire and the beautiful courtyard giving a wonderful place to relax

Everything about our trip was excellent. They were extremely helpful and accommodating from a pre booking enquiry right through to post visit follow up.
My wife has lots of food allergy problems and they had absolutely no problem catering for her and her needs.
On top of this, the food was excellent, the menu well labelled for intolerances and the choice was great.
All in all we had a great 2 night stay.

There is a great nature reserve right behind the inn, but to get to it requires a walk along the river. we went in winter after some heavy rain and the river was in near flood. Wellies were required, as some of the paths were flooded beyond walking boot depth! Managed to see lots of birds and it was remarkably peaceful.
Winchester was easy to get to by car. Romsey was walkable via the river.

We arrived at the duke on the test and was greeted with a friendly smile and shown to our room, which was beautiful, cosy and warm,we'd booked for Sunday lunch and it was fabulous, tasty and well presented the atmosphere was friendly and welcoming, the next morning breakfast was great aswell as being delicious all in all our stay was fantastic and we would definitely book again, we'll done to all the staff and a big thank you
