More Reasons to Go
- The building dates from 1669 and was a hunting lodge for King Charles II. Today it's a hotel owned and operated by two generations of the Hands family.
- Verderers', the hotel's 2-AA-Rosette fine-dining restaurant, was originally Verderers Court. It was here that judicial officers passed judgement on any misdemeanours in the royal forest. Many of this room's original features remain from more than 300 years ago.
- The Speech House sits beside the Wye Valley National Landscape. Symonds Yat Rock is a popular vantage point, with views of the River Wye. It is less than 15 minutes' drive from the hotel.
- Tintern Abbey, the subject of Wordsworth's famous poem, is around 25 minutes' drive away. Gloucester is a 30-minute drive, and the Cotswolds National Landscape is around 45 minutes away.
- Puzzlewood is a 14-acre site of moss-covered rock formations (called scowles) and gnarled old oaks. It inspired JRR Tolkein's Middle Earth and was a filming location in "Doctor Who". This atmospheric landscape is five minutes' walk away.

The reception and some of the communal areas would benefit from some redecoration but our room was very comfortable and well equipped.

Very friendly, very clean, nice rooms.
The let down was the food. I am sure that it is a popular place to eat but the food just didn’t not work.
