Southend-on-Sea is a classic seaside destination—think amusement arcades and the Adventure Island theme park. The world's longest pleasure pier, extending more than a mile into the estuary, is 20 minutes' walk away.

Southchurch Hall, a Medieval moated manor house, is five minutes' drive away. Or, visit the Central Museum to view objects from the tomb of an Anglo-Saxon prince. The nearby burial site was discovered in 2003 and the artefacts brought to the museum in 2019.
