It’s a lovely venue oak beams, old world charm. The staff are very friendly and efficient. I had the sea bass, with capers and sun dried tomatoes on a bed of fennel and sweet potatoes, the flavours were amazing.

They have parking at the rear of the hotel.

Friendly staff

Practically everything is supplemented only a few items are within the deal limits . I paid £12.50 for calamari and ended up with 3 small battered packet squid rings and a bit of salad - my friend got a sharp twig in her soup. They forgot our side order . Had to get up and get condiments as they forgot also

This was our first visit and we enjoyed the well preserved 15th century atmosphere. Food and wine was very good. Staff were helpful and pleasant.

Most dishes were more than voucher value. They have to get the price right.

Superb location

Very friendly and wrlcoming

As nice as the location was the food was not of a high standard. A starter of three bits of cauliflower with a dipping sauce for £10 is not good. The chicken burger turned out to be four small pieces of fried chicken. I take responsibility for not reading the part of the deal where I had to pay extra if the starter was over £9, the main over£19.50 and the dessert £9.50. However I did not expect over 90% of the menu to be in excess of the deal price.

Nothing unfortunately.

Right from the beginning, this whole experience was disappointing. We had used the Travelzoo offer previously and while there is a price limit on what you can order on each course there were a few choices on each course, this time however, there was only one or maybe two options to choose from, some of which were not suitable for us. This I can only assume is to ensure that you are paying supplements to the restaurant to make extra money. We ordered a bottle of wine and when it came was put onto the table by the waitress who then just walked away without even opening it, that has never happened to us before, at least ask if the customer wants it opened or to try it. My first choice of starter wasn't available and when my second choice arrived, it was not as described, no honey and pomegranate salsa, just a few prawns on a plate, no presentation at all, which I would expect with the price paid. My wife's main course the mussels were watery with no sauce and the bread accompanying it was basic sliced brown bread, not what I would expect with the price point. No garlic bread came with my Beef Bourguignon and for some reason it came with a cheap looking salad, no effort at all and would have been better served with vegetables such as carrots, broccoli etc, again very disappointing for the price and looked very sad on the plate, which we have photos if Travelzoo are interested in. We had to ask a number of times for cutlery and extra bowls/finger bowls, this shouldn't be the case, staff should be trained to know what is needed on the table with each course. By this point we had had enough and only ate some of our mains and asked to speak to the manager to voice our concerns. Unfortunately, he was very defensive and was not interested in what we had to say and his tone was not what I would expect when a customer is trying to provide constructive feedback in a friendly manner. He comped the extra supplement of £4 that we paid on the prawn starter. As you can imagine after this awful experience we did not stay for dessert and I think Travelzoo should rethink using this restaurant again as we continually heard the waiting staff apologising about a number of issues that night, there is obviously a problem here.

For obvious reasons, I can't tell!

I was twice called by the Hotel a day or so before the booked date to say that (1) the Restaurant was being used for a private function and we would be eating in the Bar - I reluctantly agreed. Then (2) a call from 'Jay' to advise that they could not accommodate me in the Bar and I was being transferred to another Pub/Hotel in their Group - The Crown _ a few doors away, and we would be greeted at the entrance. During my conversation with 'Jay', he asked about any dietary requirements, and when I said I was suffering from a stomach complaint and would like gluten-free food, he said this was not a problem for them. I got the impression that this was not passed to The Crown, resulting in visiting the toilet at the end of the meal and 'loosing' much of my meal.

Greeted by friendly helpful staff. Table service was very nice along with our meal. We enjoyed a lovely lunch in a lovely venue.

Very little on menu that was covered by the voucher. Had to ask for cutlery then were given main course knife and fork for the puddings. Quality overall much deteriorated since visit last year.

The chicken supreme was good.

The voucher included starters up to £9, mains up to £19.50, and desserts up to £9.50. There were only 2 starters in the valid range: Caesar salad and cauliflower wings. Even the tomato and red pepper soup, normally one of the cheaper options on a menu, was £10. The menu said it came with bread rolls (plural) and creme fraiche. It came with one small roll and no creme fraiche. Many mains were above the valid range price. I do hot have a copy of the dessert menu, but I think that only the ice creams and sorbets were within the valid range. Sorry if that's wrong. We were told that the dessert which we both wanted was not available when we tried to order it. When the bill arrived, it included coffee and beer which we did not have.

Exceptional Food. A little quiet in the restaurant where we were put but the food was superb!!

This was the third time of booking that we were able to go as two previous meetings had been changed by them as we wanted to be in the restaurant and not in the bar. On arrival we were shown to the table by a young male member of staff who gave us the main food menu. The table was laid for a meal. When the tea arrived in was in a distressed metal teapot! The food was good - nothing special and we enjoyed it. We were the last people in the restaurant at about 4p.m. when two members of staff began moving furniture around and sweeping the floor!! This completely ruined our experience as you can imagine. I did mention it to a senior member of staff on leaving.

A very pleasant dining room, nice atmosphere, good food and excellent staff, made for a very enjoyable evening.

The food was excellent, we had a bit of a delay with the dessert but the waitress handled it very well and gave us our drinks on the house!

Very enjoyable meal

When we arrived they didn’t have a table ready despite my booking the day before where my first question was did they allow dogs and they’d said it was fine as long as we ate in the bar- which was ok for us- so I booked it! But a bit taken aback that they didn’t seem to know we were coming when we arrived in all honesty. Especially after speaking to the person on the phone explaining we had our dog with us and we had our vouchers and she’d reiterated all those details and the time and ‘in the bar’ back to me. Luckily we found a table and did very much enjoy the food it was very good.

The staff were all friendly and helpful. But we had to move to a different table when one became free as the smell by the gents toilet was gross! It was horrible whilst just having a drink but certainly couldn’t have eaten near it!! That needs sorting as other customers were mentioning it too. Our meal came out very slowly the starter didn’t arrive for over 40 minutes- slow clearing the plates and bringing the next course BUT the waitresses were lovely and engaging.

Really enjoyable meal and great value for money. Dog friendly too.

Brilliant place to dine

Delightful, historic hotel and restaurant. Had a delicious three course meal. Very nice and helpful staff. Lovely open fire. Parking available. Central position in high street of delightful shops and eateries.

Very oldy worldly pub, very quaint

Dinky when asked did we ascertain what available via voucher. Both chose soup to be told not available. My chicken was dry and meal not hot, although my friend who had same chicken dish had succulent chicken. Had to chase staff for dessert menu, although staff were very nice.

The Asian style giant prawns were delicious. But no fingerbowl was provided.

The sirloin steaks were extremely tough - inedible. We sent them back twice. The chef did his best and the presentation and food was very tasty. However, the quality of the steak that was supplied was poor.

Great food served by great staff

Kitchen was a bit slow considering the number of persons dining, but the quality was good, tasty and hot. Staff were pleasant and accommodating. Overall a nice meal.

Toilets are a little snug and not mush use for persons with notability issues.

Very enjoyable lunch after a walk

Fantastic 3course meal. We were the only ones there for lunch on a freezing cold day. There was an immense open fire with comfy leather chairs .The dining room was beautiful. Excellent food, well presented with e generous portions. Very attentive staff. Couldn’t fault it

This is a fantastic offer, our second time at the Kings Arms and once again the food and service was brilliant. Billy our waiter was very professional polite and welcoming adding to our meal out to celebrate our Anniversary.

Very nice hotel and restaurant with good food Our visit was slightly marred because they were very busy and a member of staff down so we did not get quite as much service as usual and everything took slightly longer however we had an enjoyable visit food was very good and we will certainly go again
