The Lansdowne has been run by the same family since 1912. It's primely located less than 100 metres from Grand Parade Beach in Eastbourne. Walk along the promenade to the pier, or head into town—both within 15 minutes.
Relax in one of the several sea-facing lounges at the hotel, with original Victorian features.
The chalk cliffs of Beachy Head are a 10-minute drive away. Cuckmere Haven is a 20-minute drive towards Seaford. The beach is famed for its views of the Seven Sisters.
The picturesque East Sussex villages of Alfriston and Litlington are around 20 minutes' drive away. Both are good bases from which to walk a section of the South Downs Way.
The Congress Theatre, the Devonshire Park Theatre, and the Winter Garden are all five minutes' walk from the hotel.

The staff were very helpful and attentive and professional . The breakfast very good, and the staff in the breakfast room were exceptionally helpful and kind to me as a 92 year old. The food was varied, hot when it was supposed to be.

We very much enjoyed our stay. Great room, lovely staff and excellent food. The one real downside was being woken up each morning at about 6.30am by loud, banging noises from the radiator starting up. We didn't need any additional heat because the room was quite warm enough without it. We weren't able to get back to sleep, so we weren't as well rested as we should have been. (Room 124).

It's one of our favourite hotels. We've stayed there several times but we wonder if we might be entitled to some compensation because of the problem with the heating system described above.

Our experience at The Lansdowne was good. The staff, especially Reception, were very helpful, and the hotel public rooms were very comfortable. Our gripe, which we reported to Reception were: the bathroom door was very squeaky and there was no telephone in the room. If we wanted anything we had to scan a QR code. There were several to scan to get anything. As 2 x 80 year olds scanning QR codes were beyond us. We were grateful that we didn't have to call for help!!!!

We had a problem with the towel rail I. The bathroom, it was dealt with really well by the staff,we were given a much better room promptly and without fuss. We were really impressed.

Well maintained hotel in an ideal location on the seafront. Upgraded to seaview room which was well worth the small additional cost. Lovely large comfortable room with modern bathroom. Breakfast with plenty of variety of continental and cooked foods. Associated restaurant (1912) went both nights as it was so good. Staff in both hotel and restaurant very friendly.

I booked 2 rooms at the hotel and on arrival, one room was upgraded to a sea view room but the other was a standard room overlooking the dustbins. Our friends decided they wanted a sea view too, so paid extra for this. I was disappointed as i had booked this as a treat for them. I don't know why both rooms were not upgraded in my booking? I asked reception staff who couldn't really give me an explanation.
Also, our bath tap in the room was very diificult to operate; we were unable to get a decent shower as the mixer knob was stiff and would not go up the full way.
However the room and provisions were very comfortable, and the breakfast choices were excellent, as were the staff.

Lovely hotel and very welcoming staff. We had a large, comfortable, sea facing room with a bay window (216). The only downside was that the bathroom was very tired and in need of refurbishment. Breakfasts were delicious. Overall a very pleasant stay.

We love this hotel, it's so comfortable and welcoming. The staff are amazing, so friendly and efficient, the rooms have everything you need and the food is amazing. It's walking distance to the seafront and amenities and lovely walks of the South Downs. We especially like the lounge areas, we always feel so relaxed. Highly recommend and we'll be back again.

The Landsdowne is a very comfortable and very tastefully decorated hotel. All staff are extremely professional, efficient , welcoming and friendly. We loved the location and had a wonderful view from our room of the sea beyond a lovely little park. We had good food and excellent service in the restaurant. All in all a very enjoyable and relaxing short stay and we will be back.

Enjoyed a two night stay. Decided to only go for a standard room. It was on the third floor at the back, unfortunately not much of a view but had everything we needed. Lovely hot water in shower. Be aware R 341 is next to lift but luckily not much movement or sound. Having walked to Beachy Head and the length of the promenade on each day we decided to eat in the restaurant. The food was very good and well presented with attentive staff. The face that you can park outside or opposite and pay the hotel for a permit was also very useful. A very enjoyable stay

They provided permits for parking for a small daily charge and we could park in an adjacent street.
My pillow smelt musty . Fortunately 2 were provided so I could swop it. The English breakfast was freshly cooked with good quality ingredients, although the fruit salad didn’t seem to have been freshly prepared.
The walks along the coast were lovely and the hotel is on a convenient position.

The stay was short but very enjoyable. The staff were all friendly and helpful at the reception absolutely professional but with a human touch the bar and restaurant staff were engaging and friendly but not invasive or pushy.

On our first night we had a conference call and was rudely interrupted by a thunderous set of thumping on the partition by someone in the adjacent room. We went to the reception to inform them about this and explained we were on the phone. Without any lengthy discussion we were immediately given another room and an apology. Excellent customer care!!
