More Reasons to Go

  • The property dates from the 1600s and is a Grade II-listed former watermill. The original 26-foot waterwheel is still in place.
  • "Hearty cooking is a big draw" (The Daily Telegraph) in the hotel's restaurant. Sample local produce, including Somerset cider and artisan cheese.
  • William Wordsworth and Samuel Taylor Coleridge both lived in the area in the 1790s. Many of the poems in their collection Lyrical Ballads were inspired by the surrounding countryside. Coleridge Cottage—the poet's home between 1797–1799—is less than 10 minutes' drive away.
  • The Woodland Hill circular walk passes right by the hotel. It passes through open heathland with views of the Somerset Levels, Mendip Hills, Bristol Channel, and Bannau Brycheiniog.
  • Dunster Castle, Exmoor National Park, and the West Somerset Railway are all within 30 minutes' drive away.

Generally very good, but just a little let down by welcome and service on first day. Loved the log fires - but not lit on the second evening. Having said that we did enjoy our stay and particularly liked the quality and choice of food.

Paid a little extra for an upgraded room - which was excellent.

Even though we upgraded our room I would say the bathroom needed refurbishing - the only criticism

Great place to stay for a few days. Lovely quiet area. Food really delicious with a good à la carte choice. Comfy room. Staff obliging.

Asked for an accessible room as one guest has mobility issues. Told ‘yes’ accessible. Although comfy the room is not really set up for a disabled person. No grab rails in bathroom & stepped access to shower. Plus thresholds into room from garden side which made entry difficult with a rollator & no good for wheelchair user. Having said all that, we made do but def not an accessible room so not good for us to visit again. Shame.

Lovely greeting and explanation about hotel. Bedrooms were tired, chipped furniture, terrible lighting in bathroom and shower was not very strong. BUT everywhere was spotlessly clean. We had everything we needed in the bedroom. All staff were delightful and very helpful. The restaurant was fantastic. Good choice on the menu, interesting food and beautifully presented. Breakfast had a great choice and although the coffee pot was small for two there was no problem in getting a refill
Other Comments
The hotel had a lovely atmosphere, very relaxed. We loved our two days with them and would definitely return.
