Generally very good, but just a little let down by welcome and service on first day. Loved the log fires - but not lit on the second evening. Having said that we did enjoy our stay and particularly liked the quality and choice of food.

Quality of dining excellent and without fault.
A great base for walking.

Even though we upgraded our room I would say the bathroom needed refurbishing - the only criticism

Great place to stay for a few days. Lovely quiet area. Food really delicious with a good à la carte choice. Comfy room. Staff obliging.

Asked for an accessible room as one guest has mobility issues. Told ‘yes’ accessible. Although comfy the room is not really set up for a disabled person. No grab rails in bathroom & stepped access to shower. Plus thresholds into room from garden side which made entry difficult with a rollator & no good for wheelchair user. Having said all that, we made do but def not an accessible room so not good for us to visit again. Shame.

Lovely greeting and explanation about hotel. Bedrooms were tired, chipped furniture, terrible lighting in bathroom and shower was not very strong. BUT everywhere was spotlessly clean. We had everything we needed in the bedroom. All staff were delightful and very helpful. The restaurant was fantastic. Good choice on the menu, interesting food and beautifully presented. Breakfast had a great choice and although the coffee pot was small for two there was no problem in getting a refill

The hotel had a lovely atmosphere, very relaxed. We loved our two days with them and would definitely return.

The location was excellent if you like walking, running or mountain biking. Very quiet and comfortable.

Be warned, the dinner credit is for £30 PER ROOM. The cheapest main course was £24 so we were out of pocket on the first night. What made it worse was the fish was only two inch square!. The second night the cheapest option was an overcooked burger for £17. £4 out of pocket.
The inclusive breakfast was a cheap muesli and granola, tinned fruit, chopped nuts, milled seeds and youghurt. toast and jam. If you wanted something cooked it was quite a bit extra. Like the Wi-Fi which also had to be paid for.

Lovely historic hotel with original features, in a quiet location, and a less busy tourist area. Staff were lovely, although service was slow for breakfast and dinner on first two days (of 4). After that, service was very good. Stylish character room including a sloping floor, with a comfortable bed. Neat shower room, although am not a fan of drench showers. Lots of info on local walks in beautiful countryside, and if the weather had been wet (we were lucky enough to have sun and warmth), we'd have admired the beautifully kept gardens from in front of the log fire in the lounge. And I almost forgot the food! We had cooked breakfast included, but would have been just as happy with the range of continental offerings. Dinner was the highlight though. The food quality overall was excellent, and always perfectly cooked, but we would have preferred a little more variation in the menu over the 4 days.

From the start we and our dog were welcomed. The room was comfortable, everything you needed was provided. We often travel with our dog and here he was fully welcomed. From our own separate dining area by the open fire where we could take him, down to the towel by the door for muddy paws. The location is excellent for just leaving the hotel and walking in the Quantocks without the need of a car. By the best part was the exquisite food, making the stay an all round enjoyable experience. We will be back!

Somehow incorrect dates were booked, but it was quickly and calmly resolved for us on arrival. Staff were all lovely, food was fabulous and we loved the location . Only small thing it was poorly lit in the bedroom and in the dining areas and lounge, making it hard to read books ( we had a very wet few days, but really enjoyed it

When we went to book in, there was no record of our booking! Not a good start! The receptionist then found us, but we were booked in to arrive on the day that we were actually leaving! Luckily there was one spare room, but only available for 2 nights, then we had to change rooms. Also, & this may have been our misunderstanding, we thought the dinner deal was for both of us for three nights, so it was rather a shock to receive a rather large bill at the end of the stay.

We, fairly randomly, selected the hotel as it was in a part of the country we hadn't visited before and was near to friends in south Somerset. The stay of two nights was very good. The staff, food, beverages, accommodation were all commendable. The cost was also very reasonable and we plan to return to the hotel at some stage.
Other Comments
We can't really comment further except to say the hotel has a large number of things going for it, and no real de merits.

It was an unfortunate arrival time. We rang for service at reception and was answered by an overstretched member of staff who was serving cream teas and drinks as well as manning reception. One or two members of staff at dinner and the following morning were less than 100% friendly . The second day was better served. The manager served our final breakfast and was great.
