A hidden gem we had not visited before. A beautiful, peaceful hall with a little cafe. Pre booked afternoon tea was promptly served. A good selection of finger sandwiches, beautifully light scones with jam and cream and a nice selection of homemade cakes. Included prosecco and a choice of tea or coffee at a remarkably good value price

Best afternoon tea I've had! They accommodated my dislike of mayo, mustard and vinegar with some lovely sandwiches. The cakes were great as well, as were the staff.

I was due to visit with my Mum but unfortunately she felt unwell on the day so we were unable to go. Staff very kindly agreed to boxing up the afternoon tea for me to collect & bring home so we could enjoy here. Given we could ot have the hot drink elemnt they kindly offred us the choice of any of their cold, soft drinks & they provided everything we needed including lovely napkins. This was such a wonderful gesture and lifted my Mum's spirits no end. It was above & beyond the need to do anything on behalf of the staff so I cannot thank them enough.

Bedern Hall was amazing. The afternoon tea absolutely 1st class and catered for vegetarian and person with seafood allergies made it unique and very special especially for relative with dementia and mobility issues the volunteers went above and beyond and made the day very special. The history and restoration of the hall is very special and it was a very interesting visit for all concerned. A huge thank you to all of the staff your kindness was very much appreciated. It was the first visit for our relatives

Staff even wrapped up the cakes we could not eat so my relatives had supper treats which they loved Sandwiches sausage or vegetable rolls scones 3 different types of cakes and copious amounts of tea and coffee. It’s been a long time since I have seen my brother in law laughing and chatting to the volunteers so once again. Huge thank you

The individual staff were very nice but the problem was the system - they were simply obeying instructions. A volunteer gave a talk beforehand which was interesting. Some of the food was good.

Had to leave details on answering machine to book. Bought it as a birthday tray for a friend and was very embarrassed. The Prosecco was lukewarm, (not brilliant at the best of times, but definitely not on a hot day!), had prebooked one vegetarian but they didn’t have one of the savoury items so replaced it with an apple pie. I had booked for the latest slot which was 2 o’clock. At 3 o’clock just as we were about to order more tea they asked if they could clear the table! No pre warning when phoning or indeed arriving that we needed to finish by 3. We couldn’t have another pot of tea because the kitchen was already closed. When I pointed out that we hadn’t finished we were allowed to stay until 3.15 but they asked if they could take the table cloth!! Asked why we couldn’t stay until 3.30 and were told that they had to clear up. Afternoon tea should be a leisurely activity not something rushed. If they can’t offer that then they shouldn’t offer it. Was definitely the worst afternoon tea I’ve ever had. Very disappointed.

The hall is a beautiful old building which has been refurbished and we had a table by the window looking out on to a garden. The food was delicious especially the scones and the portions were very generous. It was nice to have a soft drink first. The staff were friendly and pleasant and it was nice to look around the hall and learn something about its history.

A lovely, filling afternoon tea at Bedern Hall. The staff were very friendly and the food delicious. If there is a criticism it would be the paucity of jam and cream for the 2 lovely fresh scones - not very Yorkshire!

I booked it for myself and my daughters as we were wedding dress shopping in York- it was therefore an important day. I had booked it mainly for the amazing building- the little gem in York. However we were shown into a side room which must have been an afterthought- there was nothing amazing about the room. As my daughters are both vegan I had checked out what they could have- what they had particularly the sandwiches was nothing like I had been told- one sandwich was pesto and half a cherry tomato, no scones, salad past its best. The quiche was homemade and that was the best vegan bit. I was so sad when I left.
