The Fell Hotel is part of the Duke of Devonshire's 30,000-acre Bolton Abbey Estate. The property is in a "heart-tugging" location with "restful" guestrooms (The Daily Telegraph).
The quintessential North Yorkshire village of Burnsall was used as a location in the film "Calendar Girls". The hotel overlooks the Five Arch Bridge, which spans the River Wharfe.
Bolton Abbey is less than 20 minutes' drive from the hotel. It's home to the ruins of a 12th-century priory church. Walk through the Valley of Desolation and past Posforth Gill Falls for views from Simon's Seat.
Brimham Rocks, a National Trust site in the Nidderdale Natural Landscape, is around 30 minutes' drive. Or you could drive to the market town of Pateley Bridge and walk from there. The scenic route takes around 90 minutes.

The hotel and staff were lovely but the room we had was very dark, brighter bed-side lights would have been better. We had a coffee machine which was difficult to operate. Surely, a sachet of instant coffee could have been as an alternative? When we were to pay for our drinks bill, on check-out, we knew there was a 5% service charge. However, it was disappointing that the hotel was going to charge us 5% extra for our Travelzoo payment, for housekeeping. When we challenged that, it was taken off the final bill.

Staff were so friendly and helpful. Thank you to everyone. The only issue was no omelette for breakfast. But, that was not an option on the menu, so I just accepted boiled eggs instead.

beautiful location and rooms small hotel let down by a few small issues.we had an evening meal with them on our first night i ordered a glass of merlot costing £8 which was un drinkable as it smelt and tasted vinegary so i sent this back. Food was quite pricey but we expected this in such an establishment. However i ordered plaice which was nice enough but it came with a few boiled potatoes and a large portion of kale with no other vegetable or garnish. My partner had steak costing £35 with a peppercorn sauce which he described as tasteless. It was served with a few chips and a salad (as described on the menu ) which consisted entirely of lettuce leaves. Breakfast was very good but they had run out of yogurt and we never got our fried tomato which was indicated in the menu as part of the yorkshire breakfast and a particularly favourite item of mine. we decided not to eat at the hotel on our second night because of these quality issues we would visit again but would hope that these details could be improved.

Lovely short break. Rooms well equipped, clean and comfortable. Food near Michelin star standard )credit the Chef) the gardens are lovely and plenty of parking. Every staff member very polite, accommodating and seemed happy in their work. They also get to share out and the tips here. Staff welfare is paramount. Would recommend this hotel to family and friends.

We stayed for 2 nights. We were made to feel welcome and the staff were efficient and friendly at all times. Very happy with the room. Breakfasts were excellent. The only disappointing part of the stay was the one night we had an evening meal and the main course of lamb breast which we both had was underwhelming. However, all in all a very enjoyable stay.

We had a lovely time here. The bed was comfortable and the shower worked well. We did think there was room for improvement for breakfast: the scrambled egg was too sloppy and we would have liked a better quality of muesli. But this didn’t stop us enjoying our stay.
