A great winter break. Excellent value for money.
Great check in. Rooms a little tired but clean. Lighting in the room is need of an upgrade. More of an office ambience lighting.
Food is good and generous portions at dinner.
A very quiet and peaceful location. The 11 mile drive into York doesn't deter us from coming again to enjoy York due to the value for money in January.

I didn’t sleep on the first night and so we didn’t stay the second night. The bed was very small and the room was very hot. The hotel grounds have many other businesses and they let the overall look and feel of the grounds down.

I was disappointed that the Bird of Prey experience was cancelled, this was the reason why I booked this trip as a gift for my sister who is a keen photographer as she enjoys taking photos of Birds of Prey.

The only issue was either the double bed which was actually two beds pushed together, the mattress’s on the bed were far too soft which made for an uncomfortable sleep

Hotel entrance a bit understated - and the immediate lounge are I felt could do with a wee 'something' in line with the ambience sought by the hotel. At first I thought of a partial and sketch mural of a bird of prey - but understand that that centre is moving to new premises. But perhaps something 'light and airy' in that area would add that something special. I did so much enjoy the bird of prey experience. The staff were excellent. The restaurant staff I felt held their own under trying circumstances given the number of guests appearing for their meals - and the number of staff at busy times. Always smiling and keen to assist. The meals were superb. I liked that there was alternative non-dairy milk for cereals and cooked options to suit my non-fish, crustacean and milk diet. A small change on the menu to list key dietary allergies and intolerances might help guests further to accommodate their needs.
The hotel and guest rooms and public areas I visited were all clean functional and very pleasant. The 'older features' were appreciated.
Vis the guest room - well appointed and I was happy there - BUT I did find the frequency/colour of the flashing red light for the fire alarm disturbing. Something about that combination....... perhaps there is an alternative??
Other Comments
I know most folks have a "map" facility to hand (phone or in car), but one addition to the public area may be an interactive? "you are here" pod - with the major nearby attractions- shows the "big picture map" - easier to see for planning the day - where things are and maybe some things you would otherwise miss. I did like the idea that the hotel could offer the "experiences" and hope this continues.

Restaurant next to te option again freezing, and same for breakfast. Staff unfriendly and miserable.
Nets on windows, think they've been up for years didn't even fit from one side to other. Decor in room had marks all over need painting.

Our TravelZoo voucher included a 2 night B&B stay at the Burn Hall Hotel, with free entry to the adjoining York Bird of Prey Centre, plus a cream tea. It was great value for money! We had breakfast, dinner and a cream tea there, and all the food was very good, and the portions were generous. The staff were nice, and the room was very clean with a super comfortable bed. We'd certainly stay there again if in that area. No complaints whatsoever!

Where do we start!!!! Extremely dated! The room windows were dressed with plain net curtains which were strung by the ‘wires’ of years gone by. Premier Inns of the worst I have seen over the years were better dressed.
Although tit was clean inside, it still had the decor of an old nursing home.
The outside garden you could stroll around within 50 steps. Past that is an industrial unit area, ambulance park and the main road!!!!!
Checked out within a couple of hours!!! I have used Travel Zoo before, but have to say I am not sure I ever would again.

The tickets to the Bird of Prey centre were a huge plus because it was a privilege to handle so many birds and hear about them from experts in their field. [Not sure what Burn Hall Hotel will do when the centre relocates.] Some members of staff were very engaging. Overall and to be fair, what can one expect for £129? Take it that way and it was ok.

The hotel name and description gives one the impression of a large, historical building with nice grounds. It's not. Breakfast until 9:30am meant get there in time to finish eating by 9:30am because the staff were clearing up around you at 9:27am. The cream tea: the scone and bit of carrot cake were nice, but the jam was tasteless and the cream was flavoured and sweetened to the extent that we had to scrape it off our scones. Food is pricey versus nearby pubs/restaurants. The rooms are very small and tired (much like the whole place), but the bed was comfortable.

It was the initial booking in. The receptionist (Lily) i think needs to brush up on customer services skills. There was no welcome, no smile and no eye contact she seemed like she didnt want to be there. Ive never experienced such lack of care at a hotel. Aksp i was booked for 2 nights my cousin was meant to join me but the bedroom was the very end room on top floor around 4 corridors to get to , my cousin has a disability and unable to walk that far so didnt stay. I only stayed 1 night as not much fun staying second night alone .

A second visit so we knew the rooms were quite small with fairly narrow double beds. Reception told me later that there are 'king sized' rooms with 'king sized' beds available for an extra payment. i wish i had known that as we didn't sleep too well on both nights.
Other Comments
We also noted that food in the restaurant was considerably more expensive than when we stayed last. As a result we ate out on the second night in a lovely local pub where the food was equally priced but of a higher quality. On the positive side the hotel is well placed for visiting York/North York Moors/ is clean/has helpful staff/has a good games room/ is good value
