Why We Love This Deal
Marie Claire describes Great Scotland Yard Hotel as an "unmissable, luxurious landmark". Now a 5-star bolthole, the former HQ of the Metropolitan Police is steeped in London history. Step inside its storied walls for a classic afternoon tea and learn more about the iconic property on a guided tour. Travelzoo members pay £55 per person.
Valid from 12–6pm daily until 30 November, 2026 and from 2 January–31 March, 2027. The tour lasts 15-20 minutes and will be taken at 2pm or 6pm. Please note that availability during November is limited—if you visit from 16–30 November, there will be a Christmas theme
Great Scotland Yard was the original HQ of the Metropolitan Police. Jack the Ripper suspects were interviewed here and Charles Dickens also shadowed officers that worked at the property.
The building was also used by the Ministry of Defence in both world wars and once acted as the London residence of the Scottish Royal Family.
During your visit, you'll get a guided tour of the property. Spot 19th-century policing artefacts throughout, including vintage uniforms, whistles, and truncheons.
If you're in the mood for some more sightseeing after your tour, the property is in a great spot for it. Big Ben, Downing Street, and Trafalgar Square are all within 10 minutes' walk.
Stuck for Christmas gift ideas? Give a dining, spa, activity, theatre, or hotel experience, and create a memory.

Great start to finish. The tea was excellent. The tour was formative. The hotel was beautiful

In between tea we did ask for a new pot of tea several times before it came. It was busy but after the third time we were getting anxious especially as our food was in front of us but no cuppa! This though will not put us off from coming back.

Went here for afternoon tea with a friend for her birthday and had a fantastic time. The hotel itself is beautiful with the building's interesting history adding to the atmosphere. The tour guide was very engaging and knew his stuff. The tea itself was probably the best I've ever had, not a sandwich in sight and all totally delicious. Would 100 per cent recommend for a special occasion.

Fabulous hotel.
Afternoon tea was amazing BUT took so long that we didn’t have time for a proper tour. Would have been better if we could have started with the tour.

It was not efficient booking this experience. It was hard getting through on the phone to the hotel to make the booking and they did not seem to know about the tour of the hotel included in the deal. The hotel did not confirm the booking until I called again a week before and only sent a written confirmation 2 days before. It was only once we were at the hotel that we were assured there would be a tour after our afternoon tea.
The afternoon tea itself was very good and the staff were attentive. The tour with Mo after the afternoon tea was very good.
The deal with Travel Zoo only works out £5 cheaper than going direct which is the least favourable deal I have booked with Travel Zoo.

We were welcomed at the door and guided into the parlour then the experience really started, the food selection was themed and delicious, everything was explained by the attentive waitresses. The tour was interesting but there wasn’t a great deal to see what we saw was interesting .

The hotel is great with lots of character, and the tour was interesting.
We were disappointed in the afternoon tea, as it was not a ‘traditional’ one. Assorted savouries-no sandwiches, only one scone and a cinnamon pastry. We were not keen on the cakes either, as they were too rich for us, but they were beautifully presented.
We stayed for three hours and were not hurried at all.The service was excellent.
We would go back to the hotel for a drink but not for afternoon tea.

This was probably the best afternoon tea we have had. The manner of presentation of the different elements was pure style and it was lovely to have warm savoury food. Aveline was an attentive waitress and her suggestion that we eat the warm elements of the tea, then undertake the tour and return to complete the tea was excellent advice and made the experience more special. The guide who gave the tour was extremely knowledgeable, clearly loved his job and was happy to answer questions.

Would have liked a more detailed tour of the building with more history, but really enjoyed. Was surprised to have £15 service charge added! It was pointed out that it was optional.

Went for the Tour and afternoon tea. Truly fantastic if brief tour and the Tea was exceptional. Tea was deceptive. Started small and became bigger as we ate through the 3 courses.

A lovely historical building in a good location for a walk around London afterward, and love the way they have incorporated the history into the décor and menus. Very friendly and helpful staff. They had a good selection of teas and the food was tasty. It also included a warm cinnamon roll and scone, instead of the usual two scones, which was a lovely surprise, but each course was slow to come out. The tour was interesting too and they explained the stories behind the décor.
BUT ...
We missed our train (I know, rookie mistake) so I called to explain and let them know we were on our way. The lady said she would pass on the message - she didn't! When we arrived, they said they had given away our table because they thought we weren't coming and hadn't received our message. Thankfully, we only had to wait a short time for someone to leave and a table to be available.
It was a crime themed menu so instead of the usual sandwiches, we got savouries which as mentioned were tasty, but very small and more like appetisers so weren’t very filling - the sweets were bigger than the savouries. We did ask if we could get a couple more and they did bring us something.
This was a little treat for my birthday and usually with an afternoon tea we go hungry and leave full, but this time we went to a restaurant afterwards!

Apart from a delicious afternoon tea (with a bit of magic, which I won't describe so as not to spoil the surprise) the chance to see a bit of the premises and learn something of its past was an additional treat.

The quality of the food. Also we waited over half an hour for our Savouries. Didn't particularly enjoy them. I am a little suspicious that they weren't fresh as l developed a really upset tummy on the way home which continued for 2 days

There was too little savoury food for my taste, and that of my friend. Though what we had was good quality. The tour was nice but they could have made much more of it.

Very different menu so not very filling. Only received one quarter of a sandwich. Lots of food themes to a nod for Scotland Yard which were very clever and entertaining. Staff were fantastic and the small parlour was very cosy and comfortable. Tour was very interesting and the building as a hotel was stunning.

The food was absolutely amazing and at that price so much better than others including the big hotels.
The service was very slow ,we had to ask for our tea when we had been waiting about 15mins.
We missed out on the tour when we arrived i asked about the timing of the tour and I was told they couldn't do one until 2pm ,we had booked 12 o'clock tea so we could have plenty of time before our matinee. When I was paying the bill I said I was disappointed to miss out on the tour the head waitress was summoned and said we could have had it anytime.
The food and the decor are amazing

Very long wait for the afternoon tea. The staff were very apologetic and said the kitchen was busy. I don't think they should offer 12pm booking if the kitchen is not ready.

My friend and I had a wonderful time! The staff were so attentive a friendly - Naomi gave us a wonderful tour around the hotel. The afternoon tea was lovely with plentiful desserts! My only negative point would be that the 13.5% service charge does feel a little steep, but it is optional, and I paid it because the staff were excellent.

Lovely venue beautiful interior. Fantastic staff, polite, attentive, great service )top marks )The food however was a disappointment. Certainly one of the most disappointing. and overpriced for the food offered. Trying too hard to be different (we had the tennis afternoon tea) . Based on the food and the associated price we would not go back.

Very pleasant experience. Food was delicious and well presented. Fabulous hotel. I was a little disappointed with the tour, it did say on the itinerary after the first course there would be a 15 to 20 min tour. I did have to ask for it, and had it part way through the cakes, but it only lasted five minutes, it was interesting, but I was expecting to see more than I did. Not a criticism, but just wanted to mention it, so others aren't disappointed.
No substitutions. Seasonal items subject to change.
