Down a quiet cul-de-sac off St James's street, this spot was once a members club for high London society. Churchill, Henry James, and Ian Fleming were all known to frequent.
Chef William Drabble is at the helm of Restaurant Francatelli. Awarded his first Michelin star at 26, he has previously worked at The Capital Hotel, Chez Nico, and Pied à Terre.
The restaurant has received two AA Rosettes for its "modern British dishes in [a] historic setting".
It is named after Italian British chef Charles Elmé Francatelli, chief cook for Queen Victoria. Inspired by his iconic 1846 cookbook, the menu features contemporary interpretations of 19th-century dishes.

The whole experience was very nice but we were the only people who had booked. The ambience was not great because of this. However we had the bonus of being able to use our phones to book rail tickets to Scotland. The sandwiches were a bit mean and we couldn’t have any extra without paying. The chef had taken a lot of trouble over designing the cakes and because I don’t like a lot of sweet things at the same time we were able to take them home in a very pretty box. Overall they were trying very hard but they haven’t quite made it yet.

No one offered to take our coats. The waiter sniffed loudly from start to finish - I felt like offered him a tissue. We had to continually ask for water. The food was mediocre at best, with the exception of the pumpkin soup.

This was the second time my friend and I had visited St James' Hotel and Club. We went for Afternoon Tea before Christmas and had lunch on this occasion. This is a hidden gem of a venue - on both occasions the food was absolutely delicious. The staff are welcoming and friendly, the service impeccable and at no stage do you feel rushed. Wholeheartedly and thoroughly recommended.

Easy to park - the building is impressive from the outside, comfortable and elegant inside. We were greeted warmly by the bar and restaurant staff. Menu was small, but catered for everyone in our party. We were celebrating a family anniversary so the atmosphere, decor and ambiance were perfect. The soup was smooth and tasty. Salmon and chicken dishes cooked to perfection without unnecessary sauces or garnishes. Hazelnut cake and ice cream or coconut sorbet really delicious.

We enjoyed the lunch but compared to other outings we have had with Travelzoo whilst the food was perfectly pleasant it lacked a wow factor and the choice of two items per course was limited with a choice of 3 options most common in my experience.
