More Reasons to Go
- Situated at the top of Greenwich Park, Royal Observatory Greenwich has contributed hugely to the advancement of astronomy and navigation.
- The Prime Meridian, the imaginary line of 0° longitude that divides the Eastern and Western hemispheres, runs through the Observatory. Greenwich Mean Time also takes its name from the location.
- You can also see the Great Equatorial Telescope, used by Royal Observatory astronomers to measure around 600 pairs of stars. Step inside the 'onion dome' to see the 28-inch refracting telescope, the largest of its kind in the UK.
- The Mirror Moon is an accurate 2m-scale replica of the lunar surface. Run your fingers over its craters, valleys, mountains, and smooth lava fields.
- From November, the Royal Observatory Greenwich is closing for major construction. The Meridian courtyard reopens in summer 2027. However the observatory won't fully reopen until 2028, so this month is your last chance to see the whole thing for almost two years.
