The Bayeux Tapestry is one of the world's most treasured pieces of medieval art. For the first time in nearly 1,000 years, the masterpiece is on loan to the British Museum. It's one of the most celebrated works of art of the medieval world. The Tapestry provides a historical record offering a vivid glimpse into 11th-century life, depicting events leading up to the Battle of Hastings in 1066.
It follows Harold Godwinson's journey to Normandy. His encounter with William the Conqueror. And the struggle for the English throne.
At almost 70 metres long, the embroidery features 623 men, 190 horses, 37 ships, 35 dogs, and three women.
Usually housed in France, it's believed to have been made in Canterbury, England, shortly after the Norman Conquest.
It features one of the earliest visual depictions of Halley's Comet during its 1066 appearance. It was then widely interpreted as a dark omen for King Harold.
3-AA-Rosette Clos Maggiore is frequently named as London's most romantic restaurant. Dine on French fare under branches of blossom and twinkling fairy lights.

A free audio guide is available via the British Museum Audio app (visitors must bring their own headphones). It is recommended that you download the app before your visit. If you do not have a smartphone, you'll still be able to explore the story through displays throughout the experience. Large bags are not permitted in The British Museum and cloakroom capacity is very limited (£3 per coat).
