There were 4 of us and while eating at The Duke one of us found what appeared to be a hair in their food. Then a 'clump of hair' was found, we naturally called staff over. The duty manager took the food back to the kitchen and shortly after brought out a replacement and told us it wasn't hair rather it was a bit of a kitchen dishcloth and he didn't know how it got into the food. It seemed to us the DM was content to replace the food, apologise and say it wasn't hair. We all felt this wasn't adequate.

Food good, staff all lovely. Our room, on the ground floor with direct access to a small outside space overlooking the car park, was comfortable and perfect for the dog. Lovely walk along the Test, accessed directly from the car park. Large selection of wellies available to borrow was a nice touch too, since the riverside path was flooded in places. A good base for trips out. New Forest was less than a half hour drive.

We were put in a room with an accessibility toilet/shower. Even though we're booked seven months before I arrive and checked in at 3 o'clock on the day of our stay. I told the lady in reception that we did not want that room or any of the facilities she told me that all the other rooms were booked. There was no attempt to give us another room. The accessibility toilet/shower room was designed as a wet room and using the shower made the whole room flooded with water. A bad design. The hotel was advertise as being in Romsey, but it actually was 3/4 an hour walk from Romsey

Lovely place with newly built rooms. We had a ground floor room with a small terrace which worked well for us. Just wish there was air conditioning or at least a fan as it got a bit airless at night. I would be worried it would be too hot in the summer. Small bathroom but well laid out. Great restaurant. Very good value with the Travelzoo deal. Would like breakfast to be simply order what you like instead of either hot or cold. I missed my morning croissant- you can’t have one if you have a cooked breakfast. Bit odd. But food served is very good and professional service at all times.
