The Blue Ball Inn is a historic coaching inn within scenic Exmoor National Park. This diverse landscape takes in woodland, moorland, and expansive coastlines.
Dating from the thirteenth century, the property features low ceilings, blackened beams, and stone fireplaces.
A menu of hearty pub classics and light bites is served in the restaurant. This offer includes a 2-course dinner for two.
The surrounding countryside offers a huge choice of walking routes. The South West Coast Path runs within a few hundred metres of the property.
The twin towns of Lynton and Lynmouth are around five minutes' drive away. They're connected by a Victorian funicular railway running up the steep gorge. It's reportedly the highest and the steepest water-powered railway in the world.

Unfortunately we were allocated Room 16. The bathroom had had a renovation but on closer inspection, there were five things wrong with it. The toilet roll holder was not attached properly. The bath panel was pushed in at one end. The hot water tap moved when turned on. The flushing mechanism on the toilet was loose and the boxed in pipes hadn’t been painted properly. I have photos to corrobate all of the above.

Great couple of days, the food was excellent. Superb choice for breakfast, lovely friendly helpful staff. Comfortable bed, very clean room. The only challenge was the shower being one off the taps and not on the wall, but plenty of hot water and the whole place was beautifully clean.

Room basic but very nice. Fittings in the bathroom loose , chipped enamel bath. Otherwise very clean. The food was excellent and plentiful with lovely staff. Very good selection of bar drinks especially the real ales. ( recommend the Proper Job ) 2 concerns. Sugar cube bowls had no tongs therefore could be a healh hazard. We are elderly and struggled to navigate the outside steps. Handrails make life easier for some people please. Don't be put off though all in all a lovely 3 night stay. Thank you.

We did not get a front-facing or courtyard-facing room and were told they had been already booked when we made our booking - but we were not told this at the time of booking. We were told we would get a room with a walk-in shower, but found our room had a bath with shower over, which we cannot use. We were allocated a different room for the second and third nights which had a wet room and this was satisfactory. The Inn is old and very atmospheric, but has a steep staircase from reception and many steps inside which we found difficult. Staff were helpful, however, and carried our suitcases up and down when we left. Food was good and plentiful. It should be noted that the Inn is rather remotely located, even though it is directly on the A39, some miles from Lynton/Lynmouth. This was not a problem in itself. The Inn describes itself as dog-friendly and several other guests had dogs even in the restaurant which we did not like. One couple allowed their dogs to sprawl over the spaces between the tables, with the result that another, elderly, guest tripped over them and fell his full length, smashing a glass on our table in his fall. Fortunately he appeared to be uninjured, and the staff removed our food and replaced it in case fragments of glass had got into it. For us, this was probably a one-off visit to North Devon and we are unlikely to return there, but for all the reasons given, if we do we shall look for other accommodation.

Surprisingly isolated: the A39 to get there is narrow (sometimes single track), twisty and steep. The village consists of the pub, the church and 3 houses. Spectacular scenery all around, including a wonderful view over the sea from the hilltop behind the church. Ancient building with lots of steps and creaky floors. Room down a long corridor, but comfortable, with plenty of storage space. Dinner and breakfast both delicious, with plenty of choice. Staff all very friendly and helpful.
