We had a warm welcome & the staff were friendly & helpful. The room was great (room 5) with a delightful balcony overlooking the Main Street, down to the sea. Quite magical sitting with a cuppa & watching the tourists negotiate the cobbled pathway. We were lucky with a warm & sunny day. The beds were really comfy with crisp cotton bedlinen… heavenly. Breakfast was good, with a good choice plus fresh fruit & plenty of tea & coffee. The shower wouldn’t work but was rectified swiftly, by staff, a switch having mysteriously been turned off behind the wardrobe.

We loved The New Inn with its’ comfort & olde world charm & would definitely recommend it, if that’s the sort of venue you like.

Unusual hotel in unusual car-free village so need to be mobile!village. Good sized bedroom with comfortable bed and ensuite. Breakfast was hearty and staff very pleasant and eager to talk about the unusual village.

The breakfast was very good (produced by a completely different lady).

My wife and I were booked, and paid, for a two-night stay at your hotel in a de-luxe re-furbished double room on the 28th and 29th May 2026. I am writing to let you know why we left your hotel early.  We encountered several problems during our stay on the 28th and therefore checked out early and did not stay the evening of the 29th.  We therefore, respectfully, request the reimbursement of 50% of the total monies paid. We were allocated room 5, a triple room, not a double room, as requested and booked, which had been partially redecorated but not completely refurbished.  We encountered multiple serious problems with the room and facilities at the hotel, some of which were dangerous. The mattress on the double bed is not fit for purpose.  It does not have a firm edge and when sitting on the bed, or laying on it, the edge of the mattress compresses by at least 50% creating a slope towards the floor forcing the occupant to slide out; this is, and was, dangerous.  At approximately 2 am, when turning over in my sleep, towards the edge of the bed. the mattress compressed and then sloped and I slid off the bed completely, landing on the floor and injuring myself. The toilet seat in the en-suite will not stay vertical and crashes down with force.  It appears as if spring loaded, and for gentleman is extremely painful and dangerous.  It is not easy or comfortable at all for gentlemen to use the toilet at all in a standing position. The towel rail above the cistern is permanently on, is extremely hot, and it is easy to get burnt on it.  It is immediately adjacent to the door jamb.  Several times, during the hours of darkness I burnt myself when going to the toilet. This was when I had to steady myself, due to the steps down from the bedroom to the toilet, causing me to come into contact with very hot pipework immediately adjacent to the door jamb.  The three steps, down from the bedroom, into the en-suite is a particularly dangerous hazard. The ‘balcony’ is dangerous, with a set of old set of pallets used as decking.  Some are rotting and there are several trip hazards.  On first encountering the balcony I sat on one of the chairs provided and it began to give way.  Looking down the foot of the chair was across the gap between two planks and the rotten planks crumbled at the edges and gave way.  Looking around much of the woodwork was rotten and we chose not to use the balcony further. We ordered an evening meal on the Thursday 28th in your restaurant, fish and chips, expecting the quality to be commensurate with a coastal resort with access to local caught fresh sea fish.  The fish was definitely not a good quality cod or haddock but a low-grade fish like basa, which is defiantly not fresh and locally caught.  The volume of fish to batter was significantly less than 20% fish.  The batter itself was not seasoned, tasteless, extremely thick and undercooked.  On later discussion with other residents, it seems others had the exact same experience with the fish and chips. I request that you reimburse me in full for 50% of monies paid.

The New owners have made a lovely job of renovating the rooms which were very tired the last time we stayed here. We loved our room. Breakfast was delicious with fresh fruit salad and Bircher Muesli prepared each morning and was followed by a cooked to order good choice of hot food. The location is wonderful, we would definitely recommend The New Inn.

the New Inn has been going through renovation- and new management. it is a beautiful old building. Meals were delicious. Jo was such a character and good fun- (staff). relaxed atmosphere. locals drink in this pub also and they were very friendly.

The property was obviously refurbished and therefore all fresh and new looking - we liked this. The bar and eating area were comfortable enough but I would hope that this would be the next phase of upgrade to give it a brighter and fresher feel

New owners with bags of enthusiasm. I hope they can make a success of The New Inn

Staff were friendly and helpful, breakfast was plentiful with a lot of choice. Hotel is being refurbished, but did not impact on our stay.

Should be aware that Clovelly is VERY steep, not really suitable for pushchairs or any walking disability. However, a land rover is available to ferry people from the Visitor Centre to/from the Harbour

It was really very enjoyable! Lovely comfortable room with balcony looking out onto the village. The staff were "quirky" but very friendly and extremely helpful as were all the villagers. My wife and I are both 80 and the steepness of the main street was therefore a problem but we are glad we visited Clovelly at this time because I don't think we'd have managed it next year.

While we were staying at the New Inn as well as exploring the village and habour areas we also visited Hartland Quay and Hartland Abbey and I would recommend these to everyone if you're in the area.

Lovely people. Staff extremely friendly and helpful. Still in process of upgrading some parts of hotel but this did not interfere with our stay or enjoyment. Gorgeous village and would definitely return.
