The Greyhound Hotel is five minutes' walk from Cromford Mill in the Derwent Valley. Both were built by inventor and mill owner Sir Richard Arkwright. Cromford Mill was the first water-powered cotton mill in the world. It's part of the Derwent Valley World Heritage Site for its important role in the Industrial Revolution. The mill itself now houses a visitors' centre and exhibition, and guided tours are available.
The Greyhound Hotel dates back to 1778. Sir Richard Arkwright built both the property and the surrounding town. The hotel accommodated his business guests, while the houses accommodated his workers.
There is a choice of three room types available. All are included in this offer at the same price.
You can head to nearby Bakewell to sample its famous pies and puddings. This pretty town is around 25 minutes' drive from the hotel. Haddon Hall, open for Christmas events until 23 December, is 20 minutes' drive
Chatsworth House, the seat of the Duke of Devonshire, is 10 minutes' drive from the hotel. Its Christmas market runs until 14 December. You can follow the light trail in the house's extensive gardens (advance booking is essential).
