I booked this for my partners 65th birthday. We both enjoyed the experience & the location of the hotel. Just a few things could be improved. The robes provided were very small. I am of average weight & height for a woman however the robe barely wrapped around me. Which meant I had to also use the towel once undressed & waiting for my treatment. So as not to be exposed! The staff whilst pleasant both in the spa & restaurant (afternoon tea) I felt could have been a little more friendly. We booked the afternoon tea for 3.15 we waited 30 mins for it to arrive. It wasn’t busy in fact we were the only couple in the restaurant for the first 10 mins. Frustratingly another couple arrived ordered food which was served before our afternoon tea.

No swimming pool at this one but following the Thermal Journey as signposted was interesting. A little mouldy in places e.g.ceiling & shower seals could be improved but overall a pleasant experience.
Afternoon tea was filling. Most people took doggy bags away. Lovely to see the history preserved in this building.

As ever, the Netherwood provides the best service and value for any spa in Cumbria....probably the UK. It would be amazing to have outdoor facilities so maybe now it's in the process of being revamped with the new owners, you never know. It wouldn't stop me going back and am already on the lookout for the next voucher cycle!

Went with a friend, been a few times now. Spa very relaxing, clean and quiet. Lunch very good indeed, I had the Cartmel Valley smoked Salmon with Prawns and salad - superb! Sorbet to follow which was perfect.

Ladies toilets out of order while I visited, I was told by spa staff to use the men's toilets in spa.
Showers were too hot to use in the ladies.

We order only egg sandwiches with no butter for one of options for our afternoon tea, as one of us was vegetarian and doesn't have butter, we received one egg one cheese and pickle one homus and pepper and another that I was unsure of but all had butter on.
When we sent these sandwiches back we were told it was ok it wasn't butter it was flora spread! So this was meant to make it better.

A beautiful building with many period features, the staff seemed very friendly although some spoke little English. The quality of the afternoon tea was excellent, but the coffee was weak.

It certainly did not look like the photo on arrival, there were towels strewn about the area, no space to put our stuff, empty bottles & plastic cups everywhere, no water with lemon/cucumber dispenser, just a few empty jugs...
No guidance as to what was available & where things were.
Consultation was minimal & seemed automated & pointless. I don't even know who did mine & there was no feedback as to the condition of my muscles/ any stiffness discovered or knots - just to stay hydrated?
The quantity of sandwiches was disappointing too.

A small but pleasant spa. The men’s changing area has limited lockers (tokens are provided), although there are plenty available in the ladies’ area. The facilities were quite busy on arrival, with limited seating, but it soon quietened down and we were able to use everything we wanted. The locker keys would benefit from a pin attachment for swimwear, and a swimming costume spinner would be a useful addition. Hairdryers are provided, though there are no plug sockets for straighteners. The afternoon tea was generous and enjoyable. Overall, good value for money.

I. Have visited many spa days up & down the country. My very favourite is Stobo Castle sleep over. Is definitely very hard to beat. However it's very expensive. But you get treated so well, so therefore worth saving up for! everything is on hand to use as you needed The Netherworld was very pleasant the meal was delicious! The spa however lacked a lot of things.... No creams or lotion, after your shower!! No shampoo, No conditioner ,. One towel to make do for the whole of the spa experience i( by the time I tried to shower my towel was so wet....It's definitely not good enough. Loved the hotel, love the lakes! But will I be back? I'm not sure!!

On arrival we found there were 10 others using the facilities of what is a very small spa. Two left shortly after we arrived, but this still left 10 of us in a spa with just 4 sun loungers. In my opinion there were too many guests for the facilities. The staff were very helpful and professional.

We had a spa and lunch offer for Netherwood Hotel for 2 and were joined by a friend for lunch. It was excellent. The receptionists in the hotel and the spa were lovely. The spa was really nice. Our meal was delicious, great quality food. We were served by an older plane speaking man who was lovely and an equally lovely young waiter. We throughly enjoyed the experience. The hotel is smart, and was cosy and warm with a roaring fire in the lounge. We will definitely go back again!

Overall, my experience was good. The person who took my booking was more thorough and knowledgeable about the service than any other time when I booked. The cold plunge pool and aromatherapy steam room did not work which is a real shame as these were two of the things I was most looking forward to. The lunch was lovely and staff were friendly. Being able to stay in the library area afterwards was a bonus. I would definitely recommend.
