More Reasons to Go
- The Howard Arms is a Grade II-listed coaching inn with eight bedrooms, as well as a bar and lounge area. Sample locally sourced food and real ale in front of a cosy log fire.
- Local walking routes start right on the pub's doorstep. Take a walk along the River Gelt, where stone for Hadrian's Wall was quarried. Opt for the Brampton Ridge walk—offering views of Scotland and the Lake District fells.
- Brampton is well located for those planning to visit the historic Hadrian's Wall. Walk part of its 84-mile-long path; sections of this National Trail are under three miles away.
- Close by is Lanercost Priory—an Augustinian monastery and English Heritage site. It's around five minutes' drive from the pub or less than an hour's walk.
- The Roman fort of Birdoswald is less than 20 minutes' drive from the property. It's one of the best-preserved forts along Hadrian's Wall.

We went for a two night stay. The room was lovely with everything you need. The shower was fabulous!
All of the staff were friendly and helpful. The food was delicious, we ate in both nights and the breakfasts were good too- good size portions.
What topped it,is just how dog friendly the hotel was, made our stay hassle free.

We had a wonderful two night stay at the Howard Arms and wished we could have stayed longer. The location for visiting Hadrian’s Wall and Roman forts is perfect and free car parking an added bonus. All staff were brilliant and so charming. We were most impressed with the tea/coffee and biscuit selection in our room and even more impressed that they had been replenished the following day when we hadn’t asked for our room to be made up! It was the little touches that made our stay so special. We are not dog owners but would have appreciated the basket of blankets and towels on the doorstep for the use of guests’ pets. We will certainly come again! Many thanks from us both.
