  • The property was built in 1774, originally as a private residence. It's set in 72 acres of sub-tropical gardens and the hilltop views of the bay are "spectacular" (The AA).
  • Leisure facilities include a 9-hole par-3 golf course, gym, outdoor playground, and tennis and badminton courts. There is also an indoor swimming pool.
  • Pampering treatments are available at Castle Beauty for a supplement. It's open Monday–Saturday.
  • The South West Coast Path can be joined within 15 minutes' walk of the hotel. You can follow it to either the Hayle Estuary or the picturesque village of Zennor.
  • White-sand Porthminster Beach and Tate St Ives are around 20 minutes' walk away. The centre of St Ives, with a host of restaurants and shops, is a similar distance.
  • St Michael's Mount is a 20-minute drive away, and Land's End is 40 minutes away by car.

Enjoyed Most
We really enjoyed our stay, however, we do not feel that we had the best of rooms. There was a mix up with our arrival date, which we accepted as our mistake at the time. We assumed that this accounted for us being given a room that might have been slightly below par. The bathroom needed attention, it was impossible to shower without the water going everywhere, the radiator was stuck on high as it was missing a control (this was sorted for us the following day), we were unable to open the window but someone from housekeeping managed to do this and the bed was rather uncomfortable. Once home, we found that we had received no conformation of our booking from the hotel and we are now not convinced the mistake was ours.

Despite the above, the restaurant was excellent for both breakfast and evening meals, Olives bar was very nice and all staff were lovely. We would stay there again, but would be more careful to get written conformation of our booking details.

Superb location and amazing views as we had upgraded to a west wing sea view. Lovely grounds and facilities and helpful pleasant staff. Rooms a bit tired, no power points near bed, no water in room, noisy bedroom doors in corridor but great food in restaurant and Olives bar great too.

Professional staff, excellent service, lovely rooms with comfortable beds, quality food and all in all an outstanding break. The grounds are also immaculately kept, and impressed with decarbonisation project and the use of local products.
