Why We Love This Deal

Bristol Dockyards is home to SS Great Britain, the world's first modern ocean liner. Designed by legendary marine engineer Isambard Kingdom Brunel, the ship was the blueprint for all ocean liners. Travelzoo members can step aboard the ship itself, visit the new museum, and see the dry dock for 22% less than usual. Also on site is a Brunel museum, where you could learn more about one of the greatest engineers of all time. Visit for £17 with this offer, and get free returns for a whole year.

More Reasons to Go

  • SS Great Britain launched in 1843, and was the largest ship in the world. Brunel combined an iron hull with a screw propeller, making the ship the first of its kind. It was first iron steamer to cross the Atlantic Ocean.
  • The ship currently sits on a "glass sea". Walk into the dry dock and see the ship's iron hull from below. You can also get up close to the giant propeller and the original iron plates.
  • Bristol Dockyards also features the reimagined SS Great Britain Experience museum. Explore artefacts, immersive interactives, and community-led stories that celebrate the ship's four decades of voyages, migrations, and life at sea.
  • Learn more about the impressive feats of Brunel at the Being Brunel Museum. Head back to the mid-19th century, and see how he was responsible for some of the world's most revolutionary engineering feats, from bridges, tunnels, ships, and railways.
  • See 75,000 original drawings, letters and items from maritime history at the Brunel Institute*.
  • Stuck for Christmas gift ideas? Give a dining, spa, activity, theatre, or hotel experience, and create a memory.

I took a friend who loves history and we both thoroughly enjoyed looking over the ship, searching out information and marvelling at how she was built and employed. I was proud to have lived in Bristol at the time funds were being raised to salvage her and bring her home from the Falklands to say that I had contributed to it!

Will go again as we did not go into the Museum this time or the dockyards
