Why We Love This Hotel

  • This 5-star hotel had a £5 million refurbishment in 2019
  • It's on the banks of the River Irwell, less than 10 minutes' walk from Manchester attractions including Albert Square and the neo-Gothic town hall
  • The 2-AA-Rosette restaurant has "spectacular views" (The AA)

Overview

The Lowry Hotel, which underwent a £5 million refurbishment in 2019, is a 5-star property in a central location on the banks of the River Irwell.

It's ideally located for exploring some of Manchester's famous sites. Spinningfields, brimming with award-winning restaurants and bars, is a 5-minute walk away, while Deansgate -- which is popular for shopping -- and Manchester's impressive cathedral are 10 minutes' walk away. The Northern Quarter is full of quirks like street art, independent record shops, and arts and crafts centres, and is around 15 minutes' walk away.

On the same side of the river as the hotel you'll find Salford Quays, The Lowry theatre and MediaCityUK, which houses BBC and ITV studios -- all are around 10 minutes' drive from the hotel. Manchester United's Old Trafford and Manchester City's Etihad Stadium are both 15 minutes' drive away.

The 2-AA-Rosette River Restaurant is an "elegant" (The AA) dining option that offers "good brasserie cooking" and has "spectacular views" of the river through floor-to-ceiling windows. The Lowry Bar has live music on Thursday-Saturday evenings and on Sunday afternoons. There is also a terrace with seating where you can take in the view over a drink on a sunny day.

Superior River View rooms are spacious and have a king-size bed, a leather chaise longue and views of River Irwell. There is no extra guest charge for a child, and children aged 11 and under receive 50% off food and drinks throughout their stay.

Hayley member of staff who saved the day. The food was amazing The upgraded room was lovely
Other Comments
Didn’t have the room type we booked until 6.30pm, really stressful situation which was made even worse by a manager who clearly thought we could be bought by a couple of free cocktails! Made feel like we were second class citizens because we were there through travelzoo. We eventually were offered an upgrade after I requested senior manager.

Large and very comfortable room with a view of the river. All staff were very kind and professional. We enjoyed our evening meal.
Other Comments
Tea/coffee making facilities were provided. A biscuit would have been nice. The charge of almost £4 for a small bottle of still water was rather a lot. Otherwise, everything was perfect.
