Continental Hotel Budapest
Why We Love This Hotel
- Located in Budapest's Jewish quarter
- The property is built on the former site of the Hungarian baths
- Facilities include a wellness centre and a rooftop swimming pool
"A sympathetic renovation of the glorious Hungária Fürdő (Hungaria Bath), the Continental has atmosphere and style in spades", says Lonely Planet. The Art Deco hotel is close to the Great Synagogue in Budapest's Jewish quarter and is listed in the The Telegraph's Top 10 list of best hotels in Pest.
The Széchenyi Chain Bridge -- the famous suspension bridge that spans the River Danube between Buda and Pest -- is five minutes' walk, while the Buda Castle is a 40 minutes' walk from the hotel.
Facilities include a rooftop swimming pool with poolside sun loungers and views of Buda Castle Palace and other landmarks. There's also a small indoor infinity pool on the seventh floor, a whirlpool, a sauna, a fitness room and a massage area on the second floor.
The ARAZ restaurant serves a wide selection of Hungarian and French dishes and the Café Galeria offers more casual dishes.
The 272 Art Deco-style rooms are spread over six floors, each decorated with dark-wood furniture, heavy black door and tones of brown, silver and gold. All rooms have a mini-bar, a safe and complimentary tea- and coffee-making facilities.
