Layout of the hotel. Quite a trek to the room, which was very old-fashioned with a mixture of plug sockets and a television that had no signal. Breakfasts were disappointing in choice and method of service. Much too cramped and insufficient tables in dining area.

The 'executive' room was extremely tired and rundown. We would expect an old hotel to look old but this has not been well maintained. The whole look of the room was old, cold and unwelcoming, with cheap furniture, and stained woodwork and ceiling. The bar area was also very tatty and not somewhere we wanted to spend time. We checked out a day early to stay somewhere else. The best bit about our stay was recalling all the old Fawlty Towers episodes!

Very good value for money but the starter and main I wanted on a fairly limited menu was not available which was disappointing. Rooms are spacious and well equipped but details need attention. Ie. Poor quality taps. Shower thermostat did not work. Toilet seat very loose. Room 16.

Just needs some attention to detail. Housekeeping should be reporting items above and action taken quickly.
Simple solutions to things like this and it’s small things like this that affects guests and what they remember.
Overall I enjoyed my stay on what is a very good promotion.

The staff were all brilliant and friendly, and the food was good, particularly the Sunday lunches. We had executive rooms, which were very spacious and had comfortable large beds, but are in need of some updating. For example, our curtains had holes in along the closing edges, and the tv was quite small by current standards, given its distance from both the bed and table. That is why I gave a lower rating for the room. But overall it was good value for money for the deal we had.

It would have been nice to be offered fresh milk for tea in our rooms. It appeared that there was once a fridge in our room, but it had been removed. In “executive “ rooms I would usually expect to find one.

Our trip was a success. The room was excellent, larger than expected with a separate dressing area. The staff were pleasant, friendly and helpful. We took advantage of the "Green stay" which if you opted out of daily housekeeping, 2 free drinks were offered. Breakfast was good. It was a buffet but the food was hot which we have found is not always the case in other hotels. The slight issue we has was with the Sunday roast. The vegetables were lovely but we opted for the roast beef and lamb. It felt like these were previously frozen processed joints of meat and we could not determine one from the other. We raised this with the staff and they sorted it without fuss to our satisfaction. The manager also emailed us after our departure which was appreciated. Our special thanks go to Emma, the lovely breakfast and bar waitress and the hotel receptionist who greeted us on arrival. All in all we enjoyed our stay . There is plenty of free car parking.

The downside of the hotel is that Shifnal is a small town with not many shops, most of them being beauty shops or hairdressers. It suited our needs for this particular trip but not somewhere you could normally spend a whole day browsing. The hotel has ample car parking spaces and a large function room so is ideal for businesses and weddings

Excellent staff, and plenty of them. Lovely clean spacious room. But a mattress that didn't fit the bed and was very uncomfortable . Also only one hand towel provided for 2 two people (for all guests). Yes I know we could have gone and asked but that's not something you expect to have to do. Whoever thinks that's an acceptable way to reduce cost needs to think again. And that is the reason we wouldn't go back or recommend. The breakfast was poor. The evening meal was OK but not the quality or choice you would expect for a hotel restaurant..

It was complicated booking for 5 people, and not possible to contact the hotel directly. Also no provision for booking for a single person with no allowance for the fact only 1 £30 voucher was used. The system for using the vouchers was unnecessarily complicated.

One of the major plus points was the bedrooms. They were excellent.
The one major concern that we, and other guests had, was terrible "music" playing in the dinning room, which absolutely ruined dinners and breakfast. We requested the music to be turned down. It was a little but was still very unsatisfactory. We know that this would be the case again so we could not recommend this hotel. We know that this was also the opinion of other guests.

Excellent value deal. Very comfortable rooms. Friendly staff, particularly in the restaurant. A little cold in some areas but it is a an old building. Perhaps a little tired in certain areas but didn’t really detract from the experience and certainly not at the price. Very good location as only a short stroll into the town. Plenty of parking.
