"Excellent location being a few minutes walk to one of Britain’s loveliest beaches. Food at the hotel is very good and staff very friendly. Very warm welcome by Rosalind on the Reception Desk. Liked so much that we’re returning later this year."

Why We Love This Hotel

  • Knoll House is five minutes' walk from Studland Bay—a location The Daily Telegraph calls "sensational". The 4-mile-long beach has crystal-clear waters and views of Old Harry Rocks.
  • The hotel was a regular retreat of author Enid Blyton. Several local landmarks— Studland and Corfe Castle among them—inspired settings in her stories.
  • Leisure facilities include a pitch-and-putt course, tennis courts, and an indoor swimming pool. Other facilities include a games room and a cinema room. Children stay for free but are charged for meals as taken.
  • Swanage, which has a pier and a steam railway, is around 15 minutes' drive away. You can also visit Fort Henry, a 15-minute walk from the hotel. This is where Winston Churchill, President Eisenhower, and George VI watched troops prepare for D-Day.
  • You can drive 35 minutes to see Durdle Door, one of the most photographed spots in the UK.
  • For a scenic hike, follow the South West Coast Path towards Shell Bay. A ferry runs across to Sandbanks peninsula every 20 minutes.

We were surprised that check in is now 4.00pm! But they said check out is now 11.00am and not 10.00 am. But I thought all hotels were 11.00 am for check out.

We always tip waiting staff if they have been good, and we did. Again, surprised that. Knoll House took 5.50 out of my account for tips! Without telling me.

The location is superb, within easy reach of all we wanted to do and see. The food was the main letdown, the only bread available at breakfast was supermarket mass produced brown or white bread. No rolls or French loaves etc. I avoided it after the first day. At dinner, the starters were great and I would have happily have had two of those rather than a main. The roast lamb was really fatty, my vegetarian curry was ok, just far too much, and the chicken supreme looked unappetising with an odd coloured sauce. The potatoes were equally unappealing and the green beans undercooked. If I went again I would ask for a second starter instead of a main.

Characterful- cosy but expansive, ideal location close to the best beach and walks, and an outdoor pool! Lovely food and staff, and lots of dogs to admire.
